About
BODEGA SANTA ROSA has been and remains as vital protagonist and main character in the history of Uruguayan winemaking. Founded in 1898 by Don Juan Bautista Passadore, with eight generations of family tradition and over 125 years of uninterrupted history, it is considered one of the oldest wineries in the country, producing high-quality fine wines and natural sparkling wines. The winery boasts one of the largest active underground cellars in South America, a magical and mysterious place where the best wines from our harvests rest, waiting to be uncorked and enjoyed at the perfect moment, on special occasions. Our fine family of wines includes table wines, young wines, reserve wines, grand reserve wines, solera wines, fizz wines, ciders, sparkling wines (Méthode Charmat) and natural sparkling wines (Méthode Champenoise), which have received numerous awards both locally and internationally at the most prestigious competitions around the globe.

We went with great friends to explore South America and to also bring in our new year with a two week cruise around the horn.

WOW! What a surprise and highlight of our cruise. I would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend touring this facility.
The owners are an amazing wealth of information and treat everyone like family. From the luncheon, wine tasting(yummy!)music, performances, staff, non stop wine and fun...I cannot say enough. GO and experience the surprise that awaits you at the end of the tunnel. Simply put...best part of the entire two week cruise. It just went downhill from there. Sadly.

Hats off to an amazing family. Cheers

This is a fourth generation run winery. No vineyard, however the tour of the fermentation and bottling area is very interested and usually led by one of the family members. Very generous with tasting and food. The luncheon show was a fun experience. The wine for sale is reasonable to bring home to relive a fun day.

We had the most delightful day with at the bodega with Daniel. This was so much more than a winery tour. We were fortunate to be the only two people to visit that day, but Daniel graciously spent the whole day speaking about growing up at the winery, how his family has grown and evolved over the years, and how wine making has changed up to the present day. We liked the wine, loved the tour, and made a new friend. This day has become the highlight of our trip to South America. We can only hope that Daniel and Mercedes will come to visit us so that we can return the hospitality and friendship the he shared with us in the basement of the bodega.

We arrived in Montevideo on 1st January on the Star Princess. Everything seemed to be shut apart from the Santa Rosa Winery. We had no expectation on arrival of the party ahead of us. There was plenty of wine flowing and a great lunch. After lunch we were treated to a tango and samba show and everyone was encouraged to get up and join the dancing. I think we were about an hour late at the end of our visit but no-one cared and no-one wanted to leave. A great way to continue our New Year celebrations

We spent the afternoon at Santa Rosa as part of a New Years Day shore tour off the Emerald Princess. The reds, whites and sparklings were all fantastic and served in abundance. We had a great BBQ lunch and were treated to a beautiful tango show which had everyone up dancing. Would highly recommend this winery both for its wines and its entertainment! One of the best cultural and foodie tours I have done anywhere in the world.

We booked this as a tour from a cruise ship. Upon arrival at the winery, nothing in the modest exterior prepared us for the delights to be found inside. Our winery guide (and owner) Daniel met us at the tour bus, greeted each of us individually and offered us a glass of sparkling wine to start our afternoon. We toured the winery admiring the beautiful oaken casks and followed Daniel down the candlelit cellar to the "Party Room" where we enjoyed wine drinking (not just small tastes), food, dancing, an exhibition of Tango and Brazilian dancing and had an amazing time. The host was fabulous - he made us all so welcome like we were family and food and drink were plentiful. Everyone had an wonderful time. It was by far the best excursion we had from the cruise ship.

We took the wine tasting tour from our cruise liner, the description did not do this trip justice! During the city tour it thundered and lightning flashed but about lunch time as we pulled into the bodega the sun came out. We started the tour with a glass of sparkling wine made by the champagne method which was excellent, the information was ok but the atmosphere was magical as we progressed through the cellars which were lit by candles. We eventually arrived at a large vaulted room were lunch was served. This was excellent , a large verity of cooked meets and salad followed by dessert. The red and white wine flowed. Then the party started with tango dancers, singer and a samba dancer complete with skimpy costume and feathers ! In no time everyone was up doing a conga in various formats. A great surprise if you have the opportunity do not miss this trip, worth every penny.

We went with a Cruise group on New Year's Day and didn't really know what to expect. After the usual (and very interesting) tour of the winery, mostly of older equipment they don't use anymore, we traveled through an underground tunnel filled with wine casks and lit with candles, popping out in a more modern room with a very large cask at the end. Up a couple of steps and we sat at one of the round tables that were placed around an open area. Soon a band appeared, along with traditional bombo legüero drummers, singers, tango dancers, and the more exotic carnival dancers. The "wine tasting" consisted of our host Daniel briefly (10 minutes?) about the wine they were serving and then the wine was poured, food appeared, more wine was poured, more food appeared, more wine, more food... We danced, laughed and had a great time. Super experience!

We booked this tour through our cruise ship. I never knew Uruguay had such good wines. The tour was informative. We were able to enjoy several of the wines during our stay and the portions were larger than what we have received at many other wineries. The meal and the entertainment turned a simple winery tour into a wonderful outing.

If you have visited winery's and found them stuffy and not that welcoming then think again. The hospitality shown to our group was second to none. You know you are in for a good time when half way round the tour you are given sparkling wine. The lunch provided was excellent - the steak was to die for. The wine were were served throughout was superb. After lunch we were entertained royally. Would not hesitate to recommend a visit
