Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Walking the lanes with original cobble stone surface (from the 1700's) and seeing the Portugese and Spanish architecture examples.
Very clean and well-preserved.

Amazing tour of an amazing city. The most noticeable thing was how clean the place was. Completely litter and garbage free. It was a pleasure being on the streets. People were friendly and the street art was out of this world. So many varieties of art from giant murals to bronze statues. The main square was beautiful and it was delightful to see the famous buildings. Our City tour took us on the short journey out of the city and to the seaside. The beach was fabulous and we came across more fabulous street art. Our tour guide (Mercedes) was clear, articulate and extremely knowledgeable, probably the best we have ever had in South America.

We booked through Tour Guide Ushuaia and had a group of 13 from our cruise ship. Our guide was Hebert Sismondi, and he was a delight. Showed us all around the city, explained everything we were seeing, then gave us time to wander on our own. His van was clean and roomy, and the AC worked great on this hot day! He then took all of us to his lovely, quiet home for an asado prepared by him and his wife and daughter and served on their shaded patio out back. We were treated like family! Several different meats and veggies grilled over an open wood fire, salad, dessert, soft drinks, bottled water, and wine! It was a lovely day and I would definitely love to do it again! Thanks, Hebert!

We booked the tour of Montevideo independently from our cruise ship based on reviews we read on TripAdvisor. Our guide Jaime Gutierrez Castro was outstanding. Traveling with him is like traveling with the Godfather of Uruguay. He knows everything and everyone. The city itself is pretty but not overwhelming with special sights. He did take us to every area in order to show us city views, ocean views, beach views as well as a stop at the casino and market. He helped us with purchases of local items. He is extremely friendly and speaks English well so there’s no issue in understanding him. We highly recommend Jaime as a tour guide.

A leisurely walking tour that takes you to the most interesting places and combines with the local history. An optional donation is worth giving to keep the offer alive

We had expected to join a true Hop On/Hop Off bus - that is what the website for Montevideo City Tour showed on their website.

When our cruise ship docked, we proceeded to the meeting place we were told to go to, and there was the Hop On/Hop Off bus - but wait, We are told that's not our bus-we are getting a seperate van for our group of 12. Nice we think- smaller, air conditioned, easier to work with. But NO - after our group is in the van - they/the tour guide and driver look to Jam additional people in that have tickets to the HOHO bus.

At the end, we had two additional LARGE people join us that made the seating tight to say the least. While the sights seen were nice - the folks that were added complained about everything, space, heat, being with another group, our stops. We were never told why they did not put us on the the double decker HOHO bus, but the van instead.

So, while the sights seen were good +++ on this point, the switching around of our group, and the issues with them jamming in additional passengers, soured the tour for us.

Reasonable price for a city tour bus. Unfortunately we had a rainy day and sitting up top, even with the cover did not protect us and we got quite wet. Would love to try it again on a dry day!
This was a very extensive ride, they really took us all over the city. It took nearly 3 hours to see everything. Due to the poor weather conditions we did not choose to get off and check things out, next trip we will.
I recommend this tour if you really want to see how the city is laid out and to see the highlights.

this really doesn't give you the feel of Monte Video=it stops @ the rambla, the famous sign [Monte Video], the soccer stadium, and the government center. you really don't get a 'feel' of the city from it=as I stated try something else.
