It seams to me this palace is the best museum in Montevideo. Beautiful and interesting: antic collection, architecture, interiors and pictures. It's free of charge.

The Palacio Taranco is quie a beautiful building worth photographing. However I am not entirely sure of its function. I also didn't get a chance to enter. It is situated in proximity to the Plaza Constitucion and the Old Quarter of Montevideo.

Opulent residence that bears the names of the architects Girault and Chifflot, designers of the Petit Palais in Paris. Paintings of Velazquez, Goya, Teniers, Ribera, ... Perfect example of the house of the Montevideo upper class at the beginning of the 20th century. Highly recommended.

This free museum has a good display of Greek/Roman pre-Christ artifacts in the basement. On the ground and first floors are the palace rooms which appear to be in the same condition with the furnishings of when it was a private residence. This includes the...More

Montevideo is a fascinating city, but hard to visit. It's spread out and many areas are dilapidated. Other areas are downright sketchy. That said, there are many incredible historic buildings and it's truly worth the effort to see them. Palacio Taranco is a rare opportunity...More

We had the place to ourselves this day, it felt like visiting some extremely wealthy private house, filled with interesting art, antiques and some outstanding pieces: a Goya, for example. The marble floors are magnificent, so is all the woodwork, and the tapestry on the...More
