Wonderful little city with a huge surrounding archaeologic site, incredible to walk through the walled walkways that can handle a level 6 earthquake, still standing over a 1000 years. A wonderful main square with great restaurants and shops, very quaint and some good hotels as...More

This was one of the cooler ruins that we saw, along with pisac and sacsaywaman. If you plan to see at least 3 places, invest in the general tourist card, 130 soles, otherwise, for each ruin you visit, if it takes more than 1 day,...More

This is a must-see as a precursor to Machu Picchu. In contrast to MP, we saw ancient ruins that have been partially destroyed by the Spanish colonizers. Even so, the ruins are enchantingly beautiful, the views are breathtaking and a trek to the top will...More

These stunning ruins deserve your time. Try to go early to avoid the mad rush of bus tours that come into town starting late afternoon. You dont need a guide to explore these ruins. They are easy to navigate and not very challenging to walk...More

A favorite stop when we were in Peru if only because the ruins sit above a lovely city with a view of the valley. The ruins are well preserved and there is much to see in the park. A bit of a climb to the...More

Known as the starting point for the famous Inca Trail, Ollantaytambo has more to offer, most importantly the beautiful temple ruins towering over the village. Inca terraces lead to a small ridge where the ruins are located. You will be rewarded with stunning views of...More

Try to visit the ruins in the morning. Most buses go in the afternoon and it can be very crowdy. You can hire a guide at the entrance with other tourists and share the price.

We stayed in Yucay, near Ollantaytambo so it was a short ride. We had private guide so this won't help you as he picked us at 9. I would imagine we got there by 10:30 or so after some stops at Pisac. Going into the town is... More
