Beautiful views and free hike!

Pinkuylluna is located on Lare Calle, just above APU Lodge in Ollantaytambo. It's a steep but scenically rewarding hike up and it's free. You can see the Ollantaytambo Ruins(Fortress) from up top as well.

It can be challenging if you're not accustomed to the altitude, but also a good practice hike as it's maybe 30 minutes up.

Since I'm living in Ollantaytambo, I have gone up there at least a half a dozen times. It's close to where I'm staying and a nice quick hike even just for some exercise.

However, it's been closed since March 2020 and will hopefully open again soon, when restrictions are lifted.

Didn’t physically climb this but could see from the ruins on the other side. An amazing creation to store materials such as corn. Hard to believe how they carried all the materials to build in the first place

Hike for a different perspective
Dec 2019
This is a lovely hike if you've already visited the main site. It's steep and a bit precarious, but do-able. And rewarding. Amazing views of the town below and the Inca site across the valley.

Best Viewd from Below in Ollantaytambo
Jan 2020
Interesting to view from a distance for photo taking. Sorry, I was not going to tackle this hike to the Pinkuylluna Mountain Granaries. The Inca's planned ahead with backup food storage for a rainy day...smart thinking!

BOTTOM LINE: Interesting to see the old ruins and hear about their history by our guide. Worth seeing from a distance but not sure it is really worth hiking these steep hillsides. MY RATING:

Best viewed from the Ollantaytambo site!

Best viewed from the Ollantaytambo site! Yes, the hike sounds terrific, but I would rather spend my time exploring Ollantaytambo. Our guide took time to explain the Pinkulluna Mountain Granaries. Perhaps in too great of depth as I was ready to explore more of Ollantaytambo.

Money saving tip for seeing the Ollantaytambo ruins and a great walk!
Jan 2020 • Family
We didn’t have the money to see the ruins at Ollantaytambo, but we had a great free walk up Pinkuylluna, with spectacular views of Ollantaytambo ruins opposite. It’s quite steep in parts and gets windy, so only my eldest (6yrs) made it towards the top. We decided best for my 3 yr old and husband to turn back after a while. Great views even part way up though!!

Tough but good walk
Dec 2019 • Couples
We headed up first thing, cooler then and only a couple of other people. A tough climb especially if not adjusted to altitude but plenty of stops and you will be fine. Spectacular views of the town and ruins on the other side. Entry free

Almost fatigued by the amazing sites
Feb 2019
One of the many ancient sites on the way from the Sacred Valley to Ollantaytambo and beyond. This site has a lot of buildings and ruins some pretty high up on the side of hills and mountains.

Nice little hike!
Nov 2019 • Solo
I headed up around 9.30am and saw only a few others up there. It was a nice way to start the day, but for me the granaries and face on the mountain are better appreciated from the Incan fortress. So not a 'must see', but something to do if you'd like to stretch your legs and experience a different view. It only takes about 15-20mins to get to the granaries if you have okay fitness. The path is very rocky which was fun, but maybe not for everyone.

You will be able to hike this mountain for free. From this mountain, you get an amazing view of the small town Ollantaytambo. Totaly worth it if you have time.
