We booked this trip last minute based on a recommendation. It is an early morning rise with a 3 hour drive but well worth it. A long uphill trek. I recommend taking the horse if you are not well adjusted to the altitude. The view...More
Spectacular scenery!!! It’s quite a journey back and forth. Very strenuous hike at high elevations. But there are plenty of horse ranchers who will take you up for 80 soles.
Hour and half hike minimum, ending in the spectacular sight. Half our group chose the...More
While Humantay itself was absolutely amazing, the company really screwed it up. Not only were they 45 minutes late picking us up for our 4:30 AM departure, they would have forgotten all together if one of the girls in our group didn't have an international...More
Beware - No service!! I booked this private transfer through Viator and corresponded directly with Mapi Travel Cusco. The prepaid booking was for collection at the airport (at an agreed additional cost) to Ollantaytambo. On arrival at Cusco there was no-one to meet us -...More
This ticket contains 16 sites in the Cusco and Sacred Valley area. Most of the ruins, except Machu Picchu, are on this ticket. It is easy to purchase when you are in Peru. I bought mine at the ruins at Pisac, as it was my...More

Our guide Raider (at least I think that's how it's spelled) was fantastic!! He spoke great English, knew his stuff well, and was an excellent narrator--very engaging. I can say that he's the best guide I've had so far in my South America trip and...More

Hello Mark. Yes pay the deposit with Western Union, and then the rest in cash when you meet them the night before. Western Union will send you an email when Mapi picks up your deposit. Save that email for your records, and then send Mapi a follow up email saying you were told that they had picked up your deposit, and you just wanted to confirm with them. Not that you don't trust Mapi (they're a great group), but just some common sense measures I follow regarding this type of payment to any foreign organization. When you get to Cusco, you will be able to get coca leaves at the airport. Lightly chew on exactly three of them for about a minute (any more and you'll get loopy), then put them in the back of your mouth like it's dip that baseball players use, which means def don't swallow the leaves. It'll help a lot initially. Your first night in Cusco, don't eat anything fried or heavy. Go to a local establishment and ask for some chicken soup. Anything more than that and you won't be able to sleep at night. Mate de Coca tea should be available at your hotel/hostel. Don't drink it past 7-8pm or you won't be able to sleep at night since it's similar to a caffeine drink. It will help in the afternoon or in the morning. Hope this helps. Enjoy your trip. You are going to love Peru, especially the food.
