I would totally recommend a visit to this amazing place! They take both short- and long-term volunteers, who are encouraged to fully immerse in the crucial work that is done there. The staff and volunteers that I met during my short visit were truly inspirational. Above all else, the experience of being able to contribute to the care of the animals was a special privilege.

Last January I volunteered for the first time for two weeks. Im 18 years old and the least I could say is that I had a blast! I would absolutely recommand this experience, it really changes your perspective on life. The day we arrived, (I was only with a friend), I was totally shocked : you are deep in the jungle with full of animals, full of sounds. We met the crew: John and his wife are the sweetest, they really want you to feel comfortable and you can text them at any time if you want something. Their is a lady that cleans your sheet and your room, because during your stay, you will get messy. You will not be alone, most of the time, their are many volunteers helping. Each day, you wake up at 7 am, you have prepare the milk to feed baby monkeys and feed them with a bottle, cut fruits and vegetables to feed the adult monkeys, clean cages, take care of animals, do enrichments activities. Their is all kinds of animals : many types of diffrent monkeys, a perrot, slots, manatees, ocolt, giant otter, dogs, anteaters and many more. Each animal has its own history and most were abused in the past. John and his team want to share awareness and they really care about the wellbeing of their animals. Their goal is to free as much animals as they can. Im not gonna lie their is many mosquitos and many insects, I was really out of my comfort zone, but its part of the experience and it is all worth it. The food is great, and the staff can take you out to the city or to a nearby river on a calmer day, so that you can visit and really understand the culture. 10/10 recommended. Animals need help and by vonteering at RAREC, you can really make a difference.

RAREC was an amazing experience and I would recommend it to anyone who would like to care for animals while raising awareness at the same time. This organization cares deeply for the welfare of its animals and strives every day to make sure that each and every animal is well cared for. By volunteering with RAREC, you’ll meet the incredible local staff as well as fellow volunteers from all over the world working on the same goal of amazon conservation. During my stay I was fortunate enough to prepare/feed monkeys, feed baby manatees, look after a baby sloth, train and provide enrichment for the baby giant river otter, and so much more! You won’t regret it!

We only spent a day helping out here and wished we had spent longer. The work that they are doing for the animals is incredible. Daniel the river otter will stay in our minds for ever and always brings a smile to our faces when we think of him!

As a couple we stayed for 3,5 weeks at the center and we loved it! From the time We arrived till the moment We left - everything was way better than expected!!! Our flight was canceled and John helped us finding the best way to still come to the center. We had a private room as we are a couple which was really nice! Everything was clean and the beds were convertible. Our room had a great view looking into the jungle! It is basic but just what we wanted! Staff was really professional and friendly and they had a lot of knowledge. I worked first 1,5week with the animals outside the quarantine zone, where I loved to work and learn from Ingrid and Juriko! Both super passionated and willing to help!! But most of all they cared a lot about the animals! I learned about the Good the different animals need, how to observe them and how they try to make them ready for the wild again! Really loved it! After the 1,5week I worked for 2 weeks with the Vet in the quarantine zone were I worked with 4 baby wooly monkeys, 2 baby manatees and 1 new Macaw. Marilyn the Vet was amazing! She was dedicated, took great care of the animals and was willing to teach me a lot! I was able to give the animals Milk, food, medicines and some love! It was great to see how they take such a good care of animals with the materials they have. It was an eye opener. For me, This was the best experience I ever had and an once in a life time experience as I think I will never be able to work with wild animals as close as I did now. I would really recommend you to visit this place and help them out as help is really needed! Thanks John and staff for this unique and great experience!! Keep up the good work! Maxime
