I'm about to head down to Peru for my fourth expedition with Adventure Specialists. Nothing else I've done in my life compares to these exciting explorations. Gary and Edwin lead us on horseback (with just enough hiking) into exciting, almost inaccessible places in the high Andes where we explore and document little-known ruins. They know the territory and teach us about the history and how all of the ruins interconnected for the Incas and pre-Incas. And the trips include unbelievably great meals (and even a pre-dinner cocktail hour), all in the rugged and beautiful Andes. Plus a visit to Machu Picchu if you like. Highly recommended for anyone in reasonable shape with a spirit of adventure.

What a treat! Our family did the Lodge to Lodge Trip, exploring the Inca trails on horseback from Cusco to Machu Picchu. We could have never done this trip without the guidance from the Adventure Specialists. Amy and Gary have the experience to make the trip through the Sacred Valley effortless, entertaining, educational, and full of adventure. The logistics they managed for us (hotels, meals, horses) along with the helpful and knowledgeable guides they hooked us up with made our trip unforgettable. I recommend this trip for anyone wanting a more authentic view of Peru and the beautiful people who live there.

Is the one star rating a mistake? You say you love the trips yet you give us a one star (terrible) rating?

We traveled to Peru with another family (4 adults, 5 kids from 9-16). We rode horses for 3 days through the mountains, stopping for catered lunches each day, and riding into a different town for a comfortable bed each night. The horses were strong, the guides stronger, and the scenery was staggering. We visited Inca ruins, of course, and the experience was heightened by riding or hiking in. Our kids were quickly comfortable on horseback (we had a range of skills, from timid to singing Colorado cowboy). Accommodations were clean and comfortable. The food was generally very good - we had a chef prepare our meals on the trail! Cusco was a fun diversion, and we made a few additional short trips from there. Two of us are avid mtn bikers, and we asked our guide to set up a day of mountain biking. It was a brilliant day too. You can read about Machu Picchu elsewhere, but I’ll add that our guide for the horse back portion of the trip went with us. Since he already knew what we’d seen along the way, we got a lot more out of visit! We all agreed that this was the trip of a lifetime. Comparing it to other friends’ trips to Peru, we saw more on horseback, visited extra cultural sites (like a Chicharia). And, it didn’t break the bank! Thank you so much for a wonderful trip!

Thanks so much for taking the time to review. Your perspective is enlightening....sch as the minimal interest in Cusco compared to the rest and how significant it was to have the same guide on the trip as well as Machu Picchu. We are taking note.
