The train itself is as beautiful as you have imagined and the service is outstanding! My review is negative due to the extremely rough ride. This ride is completely different than the Vistadome. I don't know if it is caused by the tracks or the...More

First and foremost, we had an absolutely amazing experience on this train going TO Machu Picchu (MP). The arrival experience was excellent with music, dancing and delicious treats while we awaited a super smooth and welcoming boarding process. Once on board, we were seated at...More

At least one way, it is worth it to take this train to/from Machu Picchu. First class attentive service throughout the trip by a great staff. They make sure you are comfortable and ensure your luggage is properly taken care of, including to/from your hotel....More

We took the Hiram Bingham train from Ollantaytambo up to Aguas Calientes in the later mid-morning one day, two weeks ago, and had a really spectacular experience. The service was spot-on professional and timely from the moment we got into our seats in our car...More

There are many ways to visit Machu Picchu and this is certainly the most indulgent. A truly brilliant experience with great entertainment, great food and all whilst travelling through the Peruvian countryside at a leisurely pace. It's got to be done!

We were in Machu Picchu for two nights and three days. We finished our visit by Renewing our Vows at Belmond Sanctuary Hotel Temple (reviewed in another post). So, how do you top that? When we finished with the beautiful and moving ceremony, it was...More

A luxurious way to travel to and from Machu Picchu. We only had a one way journey from Machu Picchu to Cusco with dinner on board. It was part of our tour package and we enjoyed it thoroughly.

I wasn't sure about the extra cost but it is worth every penny. If you can afford it and if visiting Machu Picchu is a special experience for you, just do it. It was the perfect end to an amazing few days. In the VIP...More

What a treat to ride on the Hiram Bingham train. You are seated at a table with white tablecloths and china. There are several items on the menu and all were pretty good. The service is outstanding. Feel free to order anything to drink. There...More

Questions & AnswersAsk a question
I booked our tickets on the Hiram Bingham directly through Peru Rail. Our party of 5 goes up on one day and then we will return on the train the following day (both HB). It is $376.27 + 67.73 = $447 USD for each person each way. So for 5 journeys up and 5 journeys back it will be $4470. Does this seem right or did I book it wrong? Most people book through travel planners but I am trying to do it on my own- help?

It is no cheaper to use a travel agent or anyone else to go on the Hiram Bingham. In fact Belmond directed me to Peru rail to get my tickets. It is expensive but the experience we found was totally worth it and the best way... More
If you book the journey to Machu Piccu on one day and then the return journey on the following day, does that mean you are going stand-by on the way home?

You have a reserved seat on the hiram bingham.
We are a family of five traveling up to Machu Picchu on one day and then back the following day - both on the Hiram Bingham. Our seats are A13,14,15,16 and 18 (no 17) and then on the way back the next day A19,20,21,22 and 24. (no 23) Because the seats do not go in order does this mean we will not be seated together for the journey and/or meals?

I agree with the other traveler. It is a fairly small accommodation. You sit at a dining table not actual train seats. You should be close, if not at the same table. Even if you are initially seated at more than one... More
