Really very fine museum containing a philanthropist lady's belongings and telling a story of life here in the span of the years 1901 through 1987. Very intriguing particularly her care for orphan children and her concern for the arts. The guide spoke reasonably good English...More

This museum gives you a great idea of how wealthy people lived in the old part of Quito about 100 years ago. Found it quite interesting.

At the time of our visit there was no one offering guided tours. While the upstairs rooms illustrating the owners private quarters are very interesting, there is very little information on her life and work. The curators have also filled some of the empty rooms...More

Really lovely place, beautiful furnishings and interesting to see how they lived. A sweet young guide, very keen, gave a good tour. Would recommend.

A great place to see if you're about people and how they lived...not just 'things' but how these artifacts showed up in daily life. Yes, about a very wealthy woman (who also used wealth to care for children on one floor and entertain Presidents on...More

I felt it was by far the most interesting experience in old town. Really interesting house and the guides did a great job explaining the history of Maria and the house.

House owned by one of Quito's most famous patrons. Took care of the city's kids. Many of her furnishings here, though they're from 20th century. The house itself is old and of old spanish colonial architecture. We enjoyed the visit, but preferred Mariscal Sucre home.

This house was from the "crazy twenties". Inside, things are wonderfully preserved. There are quite a few paintings, as well as some exhibits that were donated by others that were not actually there, but were from the same time period. This house gives wonderful perspective...More

The riches in this marvellous house are beyond anything I've seen. Beautiful tiling, handpainted murals, gold and silver everywhere, amazing wooden floors and the most decadent bathroom I have ever seen. Go and see it now (and take the not very original story of Marias...More
