A good history behind this church, mainly due to the fact the president at the time was highly Catholic religious and loved the New Classical architecture (as we learned). Big and beautiful.... but the most special thing about it is that the gargoyles are animals from different eco regions of Ecuador! Tortoises, jaguars, etc! Also, "The Last Supper" has a... More

Very typical cathedral - beautiful wooden ceilings and a bit of a museum on clergy clothing but overall nothing special and it costs to enter - not a must see

The cathedral has an interesting history. It is a much warmer church than the golden Jesuit church. It helps to have a guide to get the full information on the altars and pictures.

The Cathedral of Quito (La Catedral) is beautiful to behold. From the outside, one sees hand-carved monoliths, sculptures and statuary. When you enter the Cathedral, you are first greeted with a huge wall of gold leaf and ornate wood work. You care allowed to take pictures of the outside and the entryway; however, photographs are not allowed of the inside... More

Cathedral was stunning when illuminated at night and worth a visit all times of day. Near other attractions so can be combined with each other.

Located across from the Palacio de Gobierno, this attraction is easy to find. Note its opening hours and closing time. Also note that it charges $3 for entrance fee. I wondered why some churches in Quito charge fees. Entrance fee should be free to the public, especially those wanting to visit and pray.

This church has a very pretty green-colored altar and overall is a beautiful chuch. The entrance fee is $3 per adult and $2 per student and you need to pay in cash. Post cards are available next to the room with the large bell. You need to ask, because they are not on display. If you purchase a post card,... More

we took the additional $4.00 tour thrugh small portals climbing dark stairs to the roof of the Cathedral. Beautiful views from the top. Very ornate church, many satues, old paintings etc. Nice, but NO photos allowed.
