The museum was decent if not overwhelming, some of the exhibits were a bit cheesy and others were common knowledge. But some were excellent and the building is beautiful. It's a shame the exhibit on the old hospital was so small and poorly done.

We entered the museum through the cafe/viewpoint area near the entrance to La Ronda and found ourselves in the beautiful old building that originally housed a 400 year old hospital - the building was laid out to illustrate different hospital functions - the actual wards for the sick, the medical instruments of the time, the location of different hospitals in... My family took me here to see the city museum, it is at a great location , walking distance from the Banco Central and the main plaza and the spectacular churches. This museum charges I think $4 for entrance, it starts out in different rooms from what probably used to be a hotel or something with a main courtyard in... More

Walking through this beautiful museum, you can learn about a variety of topics relevant to Quito's history. From the room recreating the hospital to the indigenous vs. colonial abodes, everything in this museum was a delight. I learned a lot about the city's history in a concise walkthrough of the past.

Using the building which long ago housed a hospital, the museum takes you through the history of Quito. Quite stirring is the diorama of a church showing how people were seated by rank (and money). Slaves, of course, were relegated to standing in the back. One area re-creates what the hospital of two hundred or more years ago would have... More

Good museum of local history. Good information. An hour is enough time. Great place to get out of the rain.

This museum, just up from San Domingo is housed in an old hospital around two courtyards which have all been beautifully restored. It tells the story of Quito from its beginnings, through Spanish rule to today. Exhibits are a mixture of reconstructions, objects, holograms, projections and pictures. Information is predominately in Spanish, but look out for the pull up English... More

one of the strangest museums i have visited. the exposition is kinda "we don´t really know what to show, but we have bunch of various stuff out here". don´t expect straightforward idea to be proposed in this museum, nor exploration of things from A to Z. This is nice place to walk around without bugging yourself about the storyline to... More
