At the center of the modern Plaza Sotomayor, it is a nice modern monument. The square has an underground parking and is the ideal place to start a city tour with the close by Peral lift.

This square in Valparaiso host many important buidlings of the city, it has really beautiful buildings and some not so. The monument stands proud in the square, there are many museums nearby and on the square, it pays to pay a visit!

Our guide told the story of Arturo Plat and how he got the statue which makes a much more interesting. It looks nice and a sunny day with the sea in the background opposite the naval institute and the small crafts market

Standing right in the heart of the large plaza Sotomayor, this is maybe the largest monument to see in Valparaiso and the background of the sea makes it a good photo op, but otherwise, is not all that fascinating.

This monument is located in the center of Plaza Sotomayor in Valapairaso, Chile. The monument, which honors the Chilean sailors who were killed during the Battle of Iquique and the Battle of Punta Gruesa, is appropriately across from the Naval Building.

It's a lovely huge monument across from the Sotomayer square. It is where the free walking tours meet.

Monumento de Los Heroes is beautiful in itself and is also located in an interesting plaza. A good chance to take a photo with a naval officer too

Typical of a monument in a square with surrounding and nearby buildings of some architectural interest. Worth a stop for a photo.
