Large modern square, with some monument reminding key historical Chilean events, half covered with parked cars. Close to the Peral lift, it is a convenient spot to start the city tour. There is also an underground park.

Plaza Sotomayor is an ironic celebration place. Be careful as it’s not a pedestrian square! Few times I had to run!!! Cars, bikes, buses of all sized and trolleys all around and it’s poorly marked. You stand and then it turns it to be a...More

We were there as a part of the Free Tour, and the history of the plaza was interesting. It's next to the port, where you can get a reasonably-priced boat ride to see Valparaiso from the water.

It is messy as is whole Valparaiso. Such a shame that cars are aloud here. The view on the statue harbor and naval building and market would be so much better!!!

Plaza Sotomayor is a great starting point for travel around Valparaiso. There is an ascensor (just follow the signs) up into the hills. There are bus stops nearby to take you all over the city and out to Vina del Mar. The Tourist Bureau right...More

The Plaza Sotomayor is worth a visit and once you turn your attention away from the Navy building you will find other interesting sights, like Heroes of Iquique monument and crypt as well as different Lady Justice outside the Justice building. This one is shown...More

This plaza looked so lovely on the pictures, but when we got there we were very disappointed. The area is more like a giant roundabout than a plaza. There were cars driving like crazy and the plaza has a very modern look and is surrounded...More
