Mostly the plaza is empty. That gives one a chance to enjoy a wide expanse within a large urban centre. Not a point to be underestimated. I was struck by the umbrella which had been placed to shade the military guard forced to stand guard duty.

This plaza in Santiago is an important one to experience. It is the heart of the political and governmental center of Chile. La Moneda and other government buildings are around the plaza. Flags and statues of former presidents are lining the square. There is the changing of the guard every day. There is a museum inside the Palace that you... More

The Plaza de la Constitucion is a small park-like plaza that sits in front of the Moneda Palace. The Moneda Palace is the place where the office of the President of Chile has their office. It was formally the residence of the presidents of Chile but no longer is used as a residence. The Palace was bombed and gutted by... More

This is the first thing that caught our attention as we walked into the city. The plaza was actually closed due to a protest earlier that day, but still very unique and I loved the huge flags and statues all around.

A simple but dramatically strking building. You can't visit Santiago and not see it. Naturally, security is tight as you'd expect, but the crowds still gather.

It's a nice place to stop, stroll among the statues of past Chilean presidents, and learn about the history of Chile.

Casa de La Moneda (Presidential Palace) and the Constitution square in front are the core of the Political Santiago. An open area where you could have the chance to walk around, enjoy the beautiful architechture of Downtown Santiago and visit some of the most key places in the city. Under the 'Palacio de la Moneda' you have the 'Centro Cultural... More

If you're lucky you might catch a changing of the guard ceremony. Apart from that there isn't that much to see, but you can check it off your list of landmarks for Santiago
