The Plaza de Armas is a historic piece of ground in Santiago. The surrounding building include a historic Cathedral and several government buildings. There are many benches in the tree-covered plaza, so it is a good place to people watch.

There is great planning of the square and achitecture with small, but impressive park zone inside. Especially great at sunny day. Mostly there are many people walking and looking on street artists, however it seems good for promenade with kids or meeting friends.

The plaza is lively and clean, with plenty of people soaking up the atmosphere. Unlike some plaza, there were very few touts which made it a great place to unwind.

This square was the starting point for a delightful walking tour. Surrounded by ornate buildings and a cathedral, connected to pedestrian shopping streets and a mecca for buskers.

As you pass thru see the inlaid panels, the street vendor's, mimes and lots of people, walking streets and shops, demonstrations, and police.

Santiago is a most stunning city with a diversity of architcetural styles all done in tandem with the sourrounding buildings. This building is one of the best examples of 18th century classical architecture with many French influences including the Mansard roof.

We got to the square by foot walking from bus stop. The road that leads to the Plaza is busy with shops and cafe. The Plaza is situated right above the metro station.

There are many restaurants around here all after your patronage. The Plaza is surrounded by interesting buildings and the cathedral. The centre has plenty of green areas and places to sit and people watch. The free walking tours also start here so there always seems to be lots of people in the Plaza.

Lots a nice buildings and gardens. I am surprised how far down the list this is as it seems like a central tourist area. Be conscious of who is around you and your belongings, I had no troubles but better careful than a target.

We were surprised with the how pleasant this central square was with its shade trees, fountains & surrounding colonial buildings With a number of pedestrian malls converging onto this square the atmosphere was lively & it was easy to linger & people watch
