Quaint, adorable towns (most notably Puerto Varas and Frutillar), lovely, rolling countryside on the drive around the lake- and, of course, towering over it all, Volcan Osorno. Definitely drive up the volcano and take the skilift as high as you can get- the view is breath-taking.

I spent hours just walking along the shore and it was a very welcome, relaxing and beautiful part of my trip. Lots of birds, lovely flowers, and the luxurious getaways of the rich.

This is the picture postcard view of the lake and volcano - unfortunatrly it was misty for much of my stay but that does not detract from its beauty. Lovely litle town, worth exploring.very quaint.

We drove around Lago Llanquihue from Puerto Varas. If you like hiking, you can stop on the way to visit Saltos del Petrohué and Parque Nacional Vicente Perez Rosales. It is a nice day trip. There are lots of scenic spots to take gorgeous pictures of the lake and surrounding volcanoes. We found that the winding road from Frutillar to... More
