This huge stretch of water Lago Llanquihue is the lake on which the nice and affluent town of Puerto Varas stands. Driving along the shore, you will notice how Bavarian and even Alpine most of the homes and offices look in building style. There was a huge influx of Germans to this area in both the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.... More

After spending the past two weeks in various Chilean cities and towns, it was refreshing to come to Lago Llanquihue for a few days. The lake itself is huge, but having driven the entire road around it, we found lots of little spots for beach visits, towns to explore, sites (the Osorno Volcano, Petrohue Falls, and the Teatro del Lago).... It seems as big as a small sea, and its' snow-capped volcanoes are just amazing to look at. So many great views!

If you're anywhere close you must stop by even if only for a look. Awesome views of volcanos across a pristine blue lake. I have not yet tried but understand the fishing is great as well.

Worth a drive through Frutillar, a quaint lakeside resort, and Puerto Varas with a volcano backdrop (when weather permits).

We had a incredible time going all the way to the top on the 2nd chairlift. If you ever have the chance you need to make time to go. We had a English tour guide "Ivan"...pronounced we "eevan". He was awesome. Through Visitchile.cl and Monica there is the best. She did a great job lining up the trip amd another... More

Gorgeous setting, a combination of Normandy and Switzerland with a couple of spectacular volcanoes thrown in for good measure.

We only had one day left of our holiday to circumnavigate the lake from Puerto Varas but unfortunately the weather wasn't great so the vistas were not that great however it was well worth it to do. We travelled in an anti-clockwise direction as we hoped to hit Frutillar in the afternoon when the weather was nicer. The views around... More

Well, we were able to get up every morning and view this lake Lianqulhue and eat most of our meal looking at it and the volcanoes as a back drop! On our last day there at our hotel we were even treated to a beautiful rainbow, it was amazing! We had a car so on our first day in the... More
