The most colorful and vibrant Hindu temple in Singapore
Feb 2020
One of the great things about Singapore is its rich and diverse religious community. This is one of 3 Hindu temples we visited. As a Christian, I confess I don't know much about the Hindu faith, but I do think as a religious person it is easy to appreciate the beauty of the temple and understand some of the culture in the art. With that said, this temple had the tallest entrance of statues of any we saw. It also was the most richly painted and its deep blue entrance with red and white stripped walls distinguished it. The inside was very similar to the Hindu temple in Chinatown, including layout and open design. The colors here were so vibrant and the juxtaposition of the temple with surrounding towers was amazing. I can not say I understood most of what I saw but I can say I was impressed by the art and the vibrancy of the colors.

Deepawali
Oct 2019
I visited the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple October 2019. Little India and Serangoon Road were all decorated for the upcoming Deepawali holiday (Festival of Lights). The temple is very interesting to look at and a good photo opportunity.

Beautiful temple
Oct 2018
If you’re in the Little India area, the Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple is one of the stop-off points to take in a little piece of Hindu culture in Singapore. Instagrammers and photographers will definitely have an affinity with this spot. A guide can be hired to learn more about the location, but you can also walk in on your own. Just remember to be mindful and respectful, as it is a space of worship and try to adhere to the modesty dress code (although scarves/ wraps can be provided for coverage if necessary). Although they are not compulsory, donations can be given upon exiting the temple.

One of the oldest Hindu temples in Singapore
Jun 2019 • Solo
Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple is one of the oldest Hindu temples in Singapore. It is located in the region of Small India on Serangun Road. This large temple complex dedicated to Vishnu was founded in 1855, but the 20-meter high Gopuram was established quite recently, in 1966. Inside the temple are the statues of Perum (or Vishnu), his wives Lakshmi and Andal and his bird-mountain Garuda. The temple is dedicated to Krishna, one of the incarnations of the god Vishnu. Pay particular attention to the ceiling of the temple with a circular ornament and the image of 9 planets.

Ornate and colourful temple
Feb 2019 • Couples

Easily seen from busy main road, this is a very colourful and ornate temple. Building work around the area might make tourist photos harder to take in the future. Didn’t venture in as not dressed appropriately.

Excellent Hindu Temple visited by large number of devotees every day. Its Gopuram has a grand look. No photography is allowed inside the temple. Situated on main Serangoon road in a walking distance from Ferrer Park MRT, this very old temple perform all services for the visitors like Puja, Archana, Wedding, Thread ceremony, and many more. Very powerful deity.

Do a Serangoon Stroll
Mar 2018 • Couples
Sri Srinivasa Perumal Temple is one of the most historic Hindu mandirs in Singapore, dating from the 1850s. It has an attractive but recent five-story gopuram (entrance gateway) dating from 1966 (see Gopuram at Dusk and Gopuram Closeup photos). The interior is bright with pastel colours (see Interior photo).

Perumal is a Dravidian (south Indian) diety, held in high reverence by overseas Tamils and their descendants. Peruman is identified as Krishna, who himself is considered to be the eighth avatar of Vishnu the Preserver. Hence inside the mandir you will see images of both Perumal’s wives: Lakshmi (the Hindu goddess of prosperity and wife of Vishnu) and Andal (a South Indian saint).

While this mandir is a Singapore National Monument, with a very photogenic gopuram, I preferred Sri Mariammam. Since the latter is the most historic Hindu mandir, and only a two or three minute walk from the Buddha Tooth Temple and Chinatown, if you only have time to see one mandir, I’d recommend Sri Mariammam.

However, with a bit more time, you could do a Serangoon Road stroll, starting at the giant Buddha at Sakya Muni, and then leisurely heading southwest, stopping at both Perumal, and then the Sri Veeremakaliamma mandir. On the far side of Little India, just turn right at Bukit Timah Road to get to the subway station: less than 2 km from Buddha to SMRT, and a stroll well-worth taking.
