Ramayana Ballet, performed at Purawisata Yogyakarta, Indonesia is a perfect place to watch Ramayana Ballet. Only 4 minutes from Malioboro Street. It has been staged regularly every night since 1976 and it has received an award from Indonesian Record Museum (MURI). It also has been performed at Open Air Stage (only will moved to Indoor if it rains).

Our hotel strongly suggested to visit this location and frankly speaking it didn't disappointed. As all the tourist sport in Yogya, the prices are very expensive compared to other places in Indonesia, but for the performance you will see, it is more than fair. 90...More

We found it confusing that you can see essentially the same Javanese ballet at two different places. Many people travel to the ballet in an outdoor setting at the Pramadan temple 35 minutes outside of town but we were staying in town at the Duta...More

The ballet tells the age old story of love conquering all: in this case, that of Sinta and Rama. You can pick up a synopsis, which helps, although I did not think it was that clear where we always were in the tale. Sometimes it...More

Beautiful ballet. Incredible costumes and dance. It was nice that they gave a printout in English (other languages as well) to walk us through what was happening in the story. Cost $30 for the show. You can have buffet dinner and show, however, we opted...More

Like the Kecak Dance in Bali, the Ramayana Ballet is a top level cultural event in Yogyakarta. It tells the same tale, the story of Rama and Sita, with music and dance. It is loud, spectacular and entertaining. Usually it is an open air event...More
