Of all the tourist attractions in Jakarta, this is by far my favorite. It inspired me to start my own collection of wayang and is most important stop when I have visitors from out of town. Located in Old Town, an attraction in itself, the Wayang Museum is one of the best single collections of indigenous art in the city.... More

A good place to understand shadow puppets or wayang kulit. A large portion of the exhibits is devoted to Indonesian versions of the art and also an insight into the other forms of shadow puppets from Asia and the rest of the world. There are staff that offer to guide you around and you are expected to make a small... More

Regretfully, this museum was part of our shore excursion from Holland America's cruise ship, ms Volendam. We never would have visited otherwise. There was no puppet show of any kind, just displays of Indonesian puppets. Our guide was very enthusiastic and proud, but it was uninteresting to us.

The collection is remarkable. Modern-day versions of the wayang puppets are available to be purchased. Prices are reasonable.

Indonesia has always been closely associated with the art of Wayang kulit. But what actually is Wayang Kulit? At this place you can trace back the ancient history of this art as well as to see the different varieties there is.

For me the place is too small to cover all the good wayangs, but somehow they made it big enough to fit all the important characters.

There are several Puppet collection from Indonesia and several foreign country. At weekend usually there is a Wayang Kulit (Puppet Shadow) performance for free, but you need to pay for Museum Entrance (do not worry is CHEAP), closed on Monday (all Museum in Indonesia closed on MONDAY)

This museum is well worth the time to see. Puppetry or Wayang in bahasa is a big part of their culture. It is used to tell a few very important stories about Hindi gods and goddesses. This museum shows the two major types of puppetry found in Indonesia. The signage is decent so you can get a good sense of... More

This museum is hiding nearby Jakarta History Museum. The Puppet Museum Whose shares are thousands of the most beautiful and the high art of Indonesia. And also with puppets from around the world on display. Good value for tickets. Very impressed don't miss.
