The cathedral is physically imposing with its twin spires and intricate masonry works. It is quite a sight to behold. Nevertheless, apart from the physical aspect, the cathedral, together with the Istiqlal Mosque, which is just across the road from where the cathedral is located, stands as powerful symbols of religious tolerance and co-existence. I was told by my guide,... More

The architecture of this cathedral is great and it looks beautiful from the outside. It is located just in front of the Istiqlal Mosque.

Not as amazing as european or american cathedrals, but it has its attraction because of the place it was builded. Curious thing: atrium is used as a parking lot.

We came into port and hired a private car to see the national monument, cathedral and mosque as we had limited time and the traffic was terrible. The cathedral is worth a look.

I went to see it as part of a sightseeing tour and it was a lovely sight, they were having a ceremony at the time I went so I couldn't see much of the inside but it's definitely beautifully built and and for anyone religious I think it will be a nice experience, it's also located in front of the... Located right opposite to the famous Masjid Istiqlal of Jakarta. Together with the Masjid, this structure symbolizes a great sense of religious harmony in Indonesia. The cathedral building itself is an architectural beauty. Inside, there is a wonderfully peaceful prayer hall which is generally open to all. You can spend there sitting for an hour just without really anything in... More

Much like the iconic Istiqlal Mosque across the road, Jakarta Cathedral exemplifies Indonesia's inclusive attitude towards religious life. All are welcome here, even as it remains a regular place of worship for Jakarta's small but fervent Roman Catholic faithful. I would suggest visiting during mass, when you can experience a homily unchanged from when this cathedral was built, centuries ago.
