OMG! Free entry! Being a movie buff and a neighbor (I live nearby), I thought there would be good to pay for a visit. You know the local film industry was at a peak in the 80s. There must be a lot to show… Oh well, the exhibition is free but the hall is about a basketball court (maybe even... More

There are always exhibitions with different themes being held at the Hong Kong Fim Archive and the latest one I visited was on City Cinema, which produced many hit movies in the 80s and 90s. I visit this attraction regularly for the exhibitions as well as the library, which has photocopies of movie magazines published from decades ago. Browsing the... More

As a fan of Hong Kong cinema this was at the top of my list of places to visit in my short trip to the city. I spent a couple of hours in the temporary exhibition on scriptwriting, learning a lot while watching interviews with famous scriptwriters talking about their work, with clips from their films to illustrate points. The... More

Whether it's to see a frequently changing exhibit on Hong Kong films, view a movie, or make use of the resource centre, anyone with even the slightest interest in film and the film industry should stop by HKFA. You'll easily spend more time than you plan for here. Conveniently located two blocks from MTR (Sai Wan Ho station), trams and... More

An interesting specialist attraction near Sai Wan Ho is the Hong Kong Film Archive, which is managed by the HK Leisure and Culture Services department and is tasked with collecting and conserving Hong Kong films, related artefacts and materials. Here you can visit a free exhibition hall, featuring exhibitions rotate throughout the year. The present showing - 'Remembrance of the... More

This should only be visited by people with a very serious interest in cinema that borders on the academic. It's more like a scholarly institute without much to show to the public. It's not really a museum. There are movie screenings and an exhibit of old cameras, along with books for sale. There is also a library. For those who... More

The place is small and comes with a small cinema showing mainly old movies. It is easy getting there using MTR. Get off at the Sai Wan Ho Station and take Exit A. Walk towards the sea and in 15 minutes, you are there. The place is free for entrance. There you get to know short history of directors in... More

The Hong Kong Film Archive might be off the trail for many tourists, but the small detour is well worth the effort. Don't think of it so much as an 'archive', but as one of the best cinemas in town. The small, well-designed cinema shows a mix of classic Cantonese and world cinema. For decades Hong Kong had a massive... More

If you love films, then you will find a way to get to this place which is in an out of the way location for many in Hong Kong. But I have made the trip many times. If there is something showing you want to see, be sure to book it immediately or it may be sold out.
