Hong Kong is famous for its awesome hiking trails and we did quite a few; however this was my first on Lantau island and I must say I absolutely love it! One after one after yet another one, hills crossing each other, covered with deep green...More

We walked from the Pak Kung Au bus stop, and hiked to the top of Lantau Peak before descending to the big buddha. It was physically demanding, but the trail was beautiful, and the feeling of accomplishment when standing on the top was worth it...More

Lantau Island, the biggest island in Hong Kong where the airport is located offers beautiful countryside hiking/walking trails to enjoy the scenic view of the island which is surrounded by water. Start from Discovery Bay which is accessible by Ferry from Hong Kong island or...More

I started at the big buddha (Po Lin monastery, Ngong Ping 360 village), hit the 934m high Lantau peak and ended up at the Pak Kung Au bus stop). This trail is fantastic. Clouds were lying on the mountains, which ruined part of the view,...More

Great view with a very nice trail going around Lantau Island. Lantau Peak is a really nice spot during clear weather. Under pollution, avoid to go their, you will be disappointed. Sunset Peak is easier than Lantau Peak but great for sunrise scenery. You just...More

Did the highly rated translantau last year... The 50km category, Ok... It did not follow the prescribed lantau trails all the way and the weather was really chilly back then in Mar 2016... A few months before that, had went for family holiday in hk...More

After reading an inspiring article from Lonely planet (Dragon’s back and beyond: the best hikes in Hong Kong) we were inspired to try some of the hikes in Hong Kong. The Lantau Trail’s section 5 and 6 (about 10 km combined) proved to be a...More

Hidden behind the Po Lin monastery, is the awesome Lantau trail. Nice hiking trail with low difficulty. Would definitely recommend, if one has time (weather permitting) and is inclined to be away from the crowds at the Big Buddha/Po Lin monastery, which tends to be...More

I'm in pretty good shape but I was hiking 'against the clock' and almost turned back. I recommend trail segment #3 from Pak Kung Au to Lantau Peak to Ngong Ping, but I don't recommend starting it, as I did, at almost 4pm. I just...More

Hi, my husband and I plan to hike the full 70km of the Lantau Trail, starting at Mui Wo, in Sept. 2016. We were planning to do the hike in a 3 day period. I had been hoping to camp out when we needed to rest at night but am finding it difficult to locate appropriate advice on where sites are along the trail; everything tends to point to staying at accommodations along the way. If we need to stay in holiday accommodation/hotels/b&b (for example) where have other people who have done this hike stayed, or what kind of recommendations can be made to get our hike completed as near to our original idea as possible? Also, I am keen to hear from anyone who has done this hike in the month of September so I can be advised of what kind of weather we are likely to expect. Thanks.
