That is how locals call the tram driving on Hennessy Road. The thinnest wagons you have ever seen, but on there second floor platforms offering the unique opportunity to see the 2nd story advertisements and stores on the road (yes, targeted on Ding Dong riders); the Ding Dong is a must, so is Hennessy Road with its colorful shops and... On both sides of Hennessy Road multi-storey buildings in which locals provide all kinds services at reasonable prices. These are mainly catered to locals so prices are not inflated. Value for money. A sight I saw here that I thought would have been extinct in modern HK was the bamboo scaffolding holding up signage. If you are feeling adventurous, a... More

This is a big, long street with lots of buildings, shops, restaurants, on both sides. It is served by a couple of MTR stations, and boasts of many good restaurants. I've already visited 2 restaurants with Michelin stars along this road, and there are many more Todd food places here that has not received the recognition they deserve.

I had lunch in one of the restaurants here. Over all, its a great place to get a sense of Hong kong life. Ine word of... More

Hennessy Road is a major street on Hong Kong Island linking western districts including Wan Chai with with Causeway Bay. Named after former Governor John Pope Hennessy (1877-1882), this street connects passengers between Queensway in western Wan Chai to Yee Wo Street in Causeway Bay. There are loads of restaurants and bars in the Wan Chai area and endless shopping... More

Rustic and overflowing with local life. Take time to walk along the streets to see the traditional shops as well as the locals who are going through their daily chores. Worth it if you are near the vicinity!

You can tell Wanchai is different from Causeway Bay. Wanchai is for locals if Causeway Bay for visitors. I like the typical Hong Kong chacangting (cafe), the computer special zone, the traditional wonton soup noodles with radish pickle and many other unique small shops along Hennessy Road.

There's loads of shopping, eating, and people-watching to do here. Tried to get great pictures of myself there, but it's always crowded. Maybe next time!

Staying in Wan Chai / Causeway Bay

Neighbourhood Profile
Wan Chai / Causeway Bay
Wan Chai and Causeway Bay are the retail centres of Hong Kong Island. Filled with shops, malls and restaurants, both areas are bustling with people – tourists and locals alike. Causeway Bay has one of the highest rents on the planet, and is a bit more polished and modern than its Wan Chai counterpart. Beneath the surface there is more than meets the eye – find boutique stores in the above ground floors of buildings and wander into side streets to find interesting restaurants and shops tucked away from the main roads. Wan Chai especially has experienced a modern revival in recent times, with an influx of trendy restaurants and bars around the Star Street area. In addition, both areas contain many of Hong Kong’s iconic tourist attractions worthy of your visit.
