Jinshanling is definitely a section to visit, there are no crowds and the views are spectacular! Our tour guide Manuel did not check on slower walkers like myself. At times I walked alone while the group went on at a faster pace. Thankfully people from the group checked on me. I think China Hiking should leave earlier on holidays because traffic delayed our arrival. Also a few armrests in the van were missing. Lunch was good and had plenty of options for vegetarians. They supplied water for us as well. The Great Wall is a must see when visiting China!

We got this tour group recommendation from Lonely Planet. I am so happy that we chose to go with this group. Fred and Heidi were easy to work with from the moment we booked - responsive and great. Our tour guide(s) were informative, relaxing to be around, and experienced. It was a small group and the areas of the Great Wall they took us to were great. We enjoyed our experience and our expectations were exceeded. We highly recommend this company!

I did the one-day Great Wall hike from Jiankou to Mutianyu in early September. I highly recommend this hike for anyone with limited time but wants to see an extended portion of the wall. After a ~2 hour drive to Jiankou, we were served a very good lunch, and then hiked up the mountain to get access to the wall. THe hike on the wall itself was spectacular, much of it was on the unrestored part of wall. I would say we probably spend 7-8 ours on the wall itself, the last hour or so on the restored portion that is a bit more touristy. Our guide Jane was excellent! Recommendations: Be in relatively good hiking shape, wear good hiking shoes and other attire, and bring a small backpack to carry water. Also consider an external battery for charging your phone, no charging ports on the bus and you will want to take LOTS of pictures! Many thanks to Fred and our guide Jane for an unforgettable experience!

I went on a two-day hiking trip in August. We were a small group (8 people) and the trip was a definite recommendation! We had a great English-speaking guide that gave lots of background information on the Wall and its history. The overnight stay was in a local farmhouse with the owners cooking dinner and breakfast for us. The hiking offers amazing views along the wall, but you also need to be in quite good physical condition since there are lots of stairs and walking up and down.

Don't do the Great Wall with any other company! These guys have relationships with communities living a stone's throw from the wall and they work together to create incredibly unique experiences. I highly recommend visiting any 'unrestored' section with them.
