Located in the Shichaihai area , this lakeside residence includes a museum, lovely gardens and a courtyard. The museum details the life of Soong Ching Ling until her death in 1981. There are many paintings, momentos and exhibits on display here. There are not many visitors and it was a nice peaceful visit and we gained some insight of the... More

It was not a planned visit, but I came across this place while wandering in the hutong area. This residence has a garden, courtyard and a 2-storey museum. It was peaceful here as it wasn’t a major tourist attraction. There are many paintings and exhibits inside the museum to give a glimpse of the life of Soong Ching Ling, wife... More

In the Houhai lake area. The East side of the residence is under renovation from Mar 21 to May 21, and you must enter on the western gate. Only access to the museum and the former residence is available. No access to garden. The museum has detailed the life Soong Ching Ling from childhood to her final days. The English... More

This mansion is situated in the hutong district, by the lake and combines historic buildings, rooms and furniture, as well as a charming garden and a small but very interesting memorial museum. A must if you are interested in the Revolution.

This is a good choice to learn more about post-Imperial Chinese history. Interesting artifacts and adequate labeling in English, giving you a good sense of the politics and personal lives of those who participated in the decades-long effort to recreate the Chinese nation. Be sure you go to the side building that contains most of the museum; the residence and... More

I had visited the cemetery of Song Ching Ling in Shanghai. I marveled at the strange phenomenon of the pine trees planted around her tomb that curved and bent towards the center of the burial ground. The angle of curvature of the trees apparently was not due to the effort of human manipulation. I found it unbelievable but my tour... More

Soong Ching Ling is one of the central figures in modern Chinese history, and this museum provides a fascinating and comprehensive presentation of her life and times. It's not on the usual tourist route for 1st-time visitors, but well worth the trek off the beaten path, along with a lovely walk through the Back Lakes.

The three daughters of the Soong family were married to Chiang Kai Shek and Sun Yat Sen, and to a super rich banker who was a pre-war finance minister of China. Their three brothers were some of the richest pre-war industrialists. Their father had been a shipwrecked South China fisherman boy, salvaged by a New England whaler, trained as a... More

It was purely by chance we were pottering along the North side of Houhai lake when we noticed the entry and decided to risk 40 RMB on a visit. If you are at all interested in the Chinese Cultural revolution (1911 and on) you have to visit this museum. The Beijing government have preserved her former home in an instant... More
