The modern National Library of China, known as 国图 (guotu), is located to the west of Beijing Zoo, next to a big avenue leading to the northern university region and tech neighbourhood Zhongguancun. The old part is located in a beautiful old traditional building just to the west of the western entrance of Beiwai park. The modern part consists out... More

Now this is a place to visit. I know it may be outside your itinerary for Beijing, but it would be a stellar addition to your architectural visit to this architectural maverick of a city. This is a work of KSP Jürgen Engel Architekten from ca 2009. The double decker, space-ship-type glass building houses over 12 million books, processes 12,000... More

Once you get off the subway it’s a couple hundred meters away and can’t be missed. It was a brutal summer day and the library... More

Bookshop of the National Library Beijing. An outstanding collection of high quality museum objects from the National Library. Located on the right hand side of the main entrance underneath the steps leading to the main entrance. The prices are a little high, but the designs (tea cups, sets, maps, wood figures) differ from the usual market products, with quality and... More
