There are a lot of small eateries and bars in this area. It is quite boring after a while as they are quite similar. The lake is beautiful and you can see local people doing sports along the river side, interesting.

Don't get me wrong.. very nice locale here. The lake is beautiful. Wouldn't have guessed such a nice body of water to be there. Lots of night time venues here though.. live music and the such. Looks like it's a happening place after dark. We went in the day.. nice to walk around and watch the fisherman and explore the... More

I've spent an afternoon just wandering around the lake which is full of restaurants and cafes. Late afternoon the place started to get really busy, full of locals and a few foreigner visitors as well. The atmosphere and the scenery is definitely worth your time once in Beijing.

By day the lakes are a scenic place to go for a walk with not a lot of people. In the early evening the bars and cafes get busier and they each have live performers, some of whom were excellent. With the sun setting and the lights reflecting in the water, it is very atmospheric. We didn't stay late but... More

Awesome place not to miss. A mix of serenity and the vibrancy from the pubs at night. It is near to the siheyuan and hutong. Good to explore by walking, cycling or ricksaw. Signs are everywhere and easy to locate. Have personally tried the ricksaw. The guide is pretty knowledge sharing about the history and background of the places and... More

I knew that this place was here, but we hadn't really planned on going there. But as we were heading back to the Shichahai metro station, we saw the entrance to this cool little street, so decided to check it out. A few minutes later, we walked out onto this amazing scene of lakes, restaurants and shops, all lit up.... More

We spent a wonderful evening here enjoying shops, food stalls, cafes and cocktails. I bought some souvenirs, enjoyed food from a stall and really had fun walking around this trendy area full of life at night.

Very peaceful area to take a walk or jog, very nice to explore by foot, bike or moped. Bell and drum tower is also in the background.

My husband and I walked around Back Lakes twice during our six nights stay in Beijing. The first time we were with a walking tour, which introduced us to this area. Later during the trip, we came back to spend more time and spent two hours walking along the lake, checking out shops and restaurants. It's quite enjoyable, watching the... More
