The last day of our 8 day Great Wall Trek was simply stunning. There is a section at Jinshanling that needed to be negotiated, and this has been partly restored in some areas and accordingly is available for day-trippers to access to enjoy a sample...More

I've seen MuTianYu and BaDaLing, but SiMaTai is the winner. Best part about it was the absence of bulks of tourists. It was almost deserted except for my family and a couple of people who walked by us. Felt as if we had the whole...More

The cable car service was not available when I was there due to strong wind. The hike up can be quite challenging for the not so fit and it's quite steep. I suggest anyone visiting to reserve the earlier time slot so that you can...More

I haven't seen any other parts of the wall so I cannot compare, but visiting the Great Wall of Simatai was certainly one of the highlights of our trip to China. We took the cable car up, but you can also walk. The landscape is...More

After a truly breathtaking cable car ride you climb approx ten minutes to the untouched Great Wall, magnificent. Take your time as the steps are a challenge, bring water and you will be rewarded at the end.

Anyone visiting China mus go to this attraction and walk as far as they possible can. The views are spectacular and you can see the enormous construction that took place many years ago.

Simatai offers spectacular views of the Great Wall accessible by cable car for non hikers with a short sharp climb to the steepest part of the wall but well worth the vistas once there. There is a walking path for the more adventurous soles as...More

This section of the Great Wall is only partially restored, so it has a cool rustic look. It can be easily accessed by bus #51 from the nearby tourist towns (XiaoLing, ShaLing, GuBeiKou, etc..) It can also be accessed easily from Beijing's DongZhiMen bus station....More

I did not see any dogs there nor did I see any signs prohibiting dogs. I assume you cannot take a dog on the chair lift but I am not sure if you are permitted to walk a dog up to the wall.

Hi, I have some questions about Simatai and the Watertown: - Opening hours seem to be from 8, but can you access the Wall at this time? It seems like there are time slots if you only buy Simatai tickets and a shuttle bus at 10, 12 and 14. - If you buy the combined Wtown/ Simatai ticket, do you get access to the Wall from the opening time? Or do you have to stay in the Wtown to go at that time?

If you buy the combo ticket, you can go to the Wall at opening hour which is 8AM. If you are only buying the ticket for Simatai, you have to register on the website and only go at the appointed time slot, which is 10, 12 or... More
