This gate separates the outer halls from the inner palaces that were the living quarters of the emperors. The Gate of Heavenly Purity is just after the Hall of Preserving Harmony and before the Palace of Heavenly Purity. There is a pair of bronze lions...More

There is so much to take in and appreciate when you visit the Forbidden City, and after a while a lot of the architecture and design seems to just blend in. Take your time to wander through at your pace to appreciate what you are...More

It looked rather dull, as it hadn’t been restored to the original colour. Nevertheless, it was another important gate in the central axis. The name of the gate was written in both traditional Chinese characters and Manchu script.

The Gate of Heavenly Purity is the gateway between the outer and inner courts of the Forbidden City. It serves as the main entrance to the imperial household. In the front are a pair of gilded bronze lions.
