Very crowded place to be on February 18th, but it is a significant time of the year ~ New Year Spring Festival. The crowds were huge, the red lanterns adorning various structures quite dazzling. This is the year of the Dog, and at various locations...More

Beijing is such a loud city, and it was hard to find a piece of peacefulness. The temple of earth offered a place of quietness and all. My husband and I came after Christmas day, and it was just like a normal day in Beijing...More

Very much off-season, on a weekday afternoon. Lovely walk along tree-lined paths. A nice introduction to Beijing for me before taking on the major sights. Enjoyed seeing older citizens playing croquet and others exercising. Fall colors past their prime but still enjoyable. The Temple of...More

I got here at 6.30am. Easy to find and only 2¥ to enter. Up in the far north corner is an adults playground. Go join in with the elderly doing their morning exercises. Nimble, fit folk! Others are busy playing croquet, a version of soccer...More

Come here in the morning and find yourself surrounded by people doing Tai Chi, choirs singing old Chinese and communist songs, ballroom dancing, erhu playing and what not. The ballroom dancing lasts until late night and it is hard not to join in!

Part of the Temple of Earth is familiar from other temples: big buildings, spacious parade areas, etc. But much of it is just a great, big park with lovely walking paths, ponds, sculptures, and even play equipment. If you need to decompress from all the...More

This big park surrounds the Temple of Earth, walking distance from Yonghegong station. Lots of families with kids and senior citizens hanging out, doing tai chi, singing in bands. One thing I found nice was people doing Chinese calligraphy with a big brush (almost like...More
