A beautiful island full of wonderful and rare trees and plants. Amazing views of the West Bank Desert. Get you boat or Feluca to drop you off at one end and pick you up the other. Half and hour to an hour is all you need.

Kitchener's Island is reached by a boat trip from Aswan. I saw water birds on the trip. You leave your boat at one end of the island, climb the steps to the ticket office and then head into the gardens. They were pretty and calm compared to the heat and dust of the city. Lots of local families were staying... More

What a surprise to find this lovely and peaceful garden. We stopped there to visit while on a feluca ride in the area and visiting the Nubian Village. Lots of history here but go for the tranquility and beautiful plants. I here it's cool on the island in the middle of summer.

Beautiful gardens of mostly trees from around the world. Very peaceful and relaxing place with the sun shining through the trees (a lovely escape from the direct sunshine in the afternoon). Looking at Kitchner's Island from our hotel room at the Movenpick, I thought that the gardens on this island were going to have beautiful flowers as lovely, brightly coloured... More

Lord Kitchener, who was given this island in the Nile River when he was the Consul General of Egypt, filled it with subtropical plants he collected on his travels in Africa, India, and the Far East. The island, located near the East Bank, is hidden from Aswan by the larger Elephantine Island which lies in front of it. Kitchener's Island... More

I took a solo trip to Kitchener's Island as I am fond of Botanic Islands and had looked down on it from the Movenpick Hotel next to it. It is well kept and there are many signs on the trees with information about the tree. The views across to the West Bank of the River are an amazing contrast. I... More

Short boat ride to reach these lovely gardens set out by Lord Kitchener to collect sub tropical species from around the world. Each tree and plant has multilingual labels. Only hampered by the stall holders on the main avenue trying to sell tourist souvenirs

I was so much looking forward to a visit to this historical botanic garden with rare plants and especially trees. All was spoiled by the enormous carbage everywhere. Such a small island so easy to keep clean. You get your entrance fees, do something with it.

It's quite an adventure! You need to take a felucca, Egyptian sail boat, to get here. Offers lovely walks and truly enjoyable for nature lovers as well as lovely views of the Nile banks both east and west. Some bizarre plants for this part of the world but best of all it showcases one British man's love for this country... More
