Lord Kitchener isn't mentioned on the notice boards, even though this was his home! Lovely gardens with easy flat walking and lovely river views. There are tourist stalls and drinks available, but we weren't pestered by sellers. Look out for interesting birdlife.

Our visit to the Aswan Botanical Garden was part of our Nile Cruise package. We went by motor boat across a smooth River Nile. On arrival we had a brief explanation by our Guide and shown the map of the garden. It was not really possible to get lost and left from the far end of the garden. There were... More

The Botanical Garden is located on Kitchener's Island in the Nile River near the East Bank. This island is on the other side of Elephantine Island which itself is across from Aswan. When Lord Kitchener was given this island, he filled it with plants he had collected from India, the Far East, and Africa. Visitors sailing beside the island on... More

The gardens a re lovely with all the trees and plants described on multi lingual labels. the only down side was the amount of traders allowed to set up stall which hassle you as you try to walk down the main avenue. There is a small mosque at the southern end of the island with a nice quiet area to... More

These gardens are seldom visited by tourists, which is a shame. The gardens are well laid out and contain a fine collection of local flora - especially the palms. You will need to get there and back by boat as the gardens are on an island, originally called Kitchener's Island.

A cup of tea at the tip of the island is not to be missed! Get there by felucca, the traditional Egyptian sail boats, enjoy the breeze carried in from the heart of Africa and the beautiful vegetation brought here from around the world by a British man who called this island on the Nile his own. Truly enjoyable and... More
