Ancient Shiite (Ismaili) mosque

This Fatimid mosque (1125) has a great façade on Sharia al-Muizz and is older than most of the surrounding Mamluk buildings. You can visit for a little baksheesh.

Also the facade follows the line of the street whereas the inside angles towards the orientation of Mecca. We didn’t even need to enter the mosque and could observe it right from... More

A small but very beautiful and amazingly decorated mosque... It has been renovated but it's built in the same old original designs.

Known as the smallest mosque in historical Cairo, Al-Aqmar mosque facade is a perfect example of classical islamic architecture. On the other hand, the interior of the mosque isn't as amazing as it's exterior but it's worth a look. Should pass by if in Muizz area

The Imam had a message behind building this mosque. One needs to carefully look at each detail to understand the art. The facade had been partly destroyed over the yrs. It... More

The decorated facade of this mosque marks a new development in the architectural history of Cairo's mosques, and it is also one of the few of its kind, dating from the Fatimid period. Now restored, the mosque retains its beautiful facade but sadly the inside was modernised at the same time and it's obvious that almost nothing remains of the... More
