memphis was once the capital of egypt but now only a few exhibits in the open air museum dont do justice to its status. the sphinx here has a nose but has no other details. the giant lying down statue of Ramses 2 is worth the visit. yet as a stand alone attraction... u can give it a miss

Good locations and history but you will need a guide for explanation and get in and out without any problems. More to be seen in a single visit. Currently scaffolding on one side of step pyramid

These are also worth visitng when you compare the experience with Pyramids of GIZA.. Sakkara has a lot of history and better to get a guide. Memphis is worth seeing the lying down statue of Ramses..

I booked a half day tour of Sakkara and Memphis on the recommendation of Mamdouh a tour guide from Youregypttours who I had used on an earlier tour. We arrived early at the site, which we had almost to ourselves! An extensive site with a stepped pyramid,a forerunner of pyramids as we know them. It is the tomb decoration that... More

If you have the time I would definitely recommend a trip to both these places. Memphis has a small museum with some really well preserved statues and Sakkara has some unusual pyramids and tombs. They are both a bit out of the way but make a nice day trip if you include Dahshur as well.

This is an outdoor museum of antiquities from the town. While the museum is quite small, it contains two huge, spectacular and beautiful statues of Ramses II.

We visited Memphis and Sakkara with our tour guide. Sakkara has a museum that explain very well the ancient site of Sakkara. Memphis museum is small but nice because of the large staue of Ramses. Nearby we also visited the oldest pyramid where the building went wrong (as you can see) and was never used as burrial place. I also... More
