This, the first stone building ever, is an impressive monument. It's hard to place oneself in the position of Imhotep, the architect (first architect ever!) and forget all we know. The development of this new idea was a major breakthrough in human history. Our visit...More

Mara House provided us with an excellent Guide. He took us through a number of pyramids and explained them thoroughly. The day is something my husband and I will remember forever.

Well worth taking a trip down here. We stayed in Giza and took a taxi, it's a fascinating site and the red pyramid and broken pyramid just up the road are excellent too. See more n World Travel Family

The pyramid is amazing one of the first constructed. But even more impressive are the tombs of the non-pharaohs. One of the tombs is open to explore and the graphics on the walls are amazing!

kudos to the modern Egyptians for protecting from development the desert expanse around Saqqara and the other pyramids from the first dynasties. One can still share the expanses that surround these great structures with the camels that roam about.

The first pyramid built. An interesting site with no where near the numbers of people of the Giza Pyramids.

We only have one day in Cairo on a stopover from Mumbai back to Toronto. One guide includes Sakkara in their offering, the other did not, only Giza. Are the two close enough that one can see both within a reasonable time, or are we trying to do too much...there are several other sites we want to visit in Cairo too. Any thoughts about other must-sees on a day in Cairo? Thanks!

They are close enough so that you can do both on the same day, but the street market and museum would be more interesting than Sakkara. Sakkara has the oldest pyramid but currently it is being repaired. You could... More
