This is much more than just the pyramids, it includes a very informative museum that you should visit first, a series of tombs, and a temple. It's also much more calm and peaceful than the pyramids at Giza, but less so than Dhashur.

The oldest first step pyramid is bigger than what I thought! And the work with the stone I was in awe. Do not miss the Imhotep museum nearby, amazing

I absolutely loved this spot. Its next to a cemetery (which is mostly fallen apart) where an entire village is buried. We got there early (around 8am) and were the only ones there which is why I think I loved it so much. It was tranquil. Great views of the Sahara and Bent Pyramid. There is also an area underneath... In my opinion the Saqqara pyramids are more rich in history than the ones in Giza. Do pay a visit to these site you won't be disappointed. Loved the history associated with how the shape of the pyramid came into being.

Be sure to get a truly knowledgeable guide who can help you understand the amazing details on the walls of the priestly tombs. Plan to spend a half an hour or even more. The joy is in the details.

So helpful to start here in order to see the historical progression in creating pyramids. This is where they all began and evolved.

Saqqara is a pyramid composed od 6 steps/levels, but the first one, the bade, has suffered a lot along all these years. The authorities fear for its collapse and to prevent this, msny works of engineering have been made to avoid its fall. Besides the step pyramid there are some "mastabas" around it.

Our trip to the area of Sakkara was different from that to Giza as Sakkara is much more peaceful and much less people or vendors. The oldest complete building of stone in history was before my eyes I can't believe it!
