The churches in the Old City/Coptic Cairo are lovely. The icons, tiles, woodwork and tapestries are beautiful to see. I would suggest you see the Hanging Church and the well. On the walk down the street to the church, you can see lovely Coptic crosses on the bleached white buildings.

Asharf took me to the church of the Holy Family. Very interesting and beautiful. You walk through the narrow streets of this part of town. Glad to have a guide who knew where to go and what to do!

Interesting places to visit at this old part of Egypt. Need to go through security gate before entering, so we felt safe. Other than the infamous hanging church, there are many other churches, a synagogue and a mosque. We had local food at Old Cairo Cafe. Great food and price, Shawarma or Kofta set lunch for only USD$3.

There are nine breathtaking churches inside the compound, plus a mosque and synagogue. All are beautifully unique and offer cultural and historic insight. You'll go through a security checkpoint as you enter the compound, then you'll walk down a main street for approximately 100 feet before you see the cemetery on your left, than perhaps another 1,000 feet before you... If you are interested in religious sites, this is definitely for you. There are several churches, a synagogue and a mosque all together in one place. As you walk through you will see security personal everywhere and sometimes wonder if you are supposed to be showing them a ticket to get in, that is not the case.

Fascinating. I had been to Cairo before but had no idea that there was history that I had never discovered. The tour was amazing and our guides Emy and Mohammad were wonderful. We even got to see places that most others don't normally get to experience. We even had a few laughs along the tour. They made us feel right... More

The Old City is definitely worth a visit, realizing that it's primarily full of vendors seeking to sell their pretty standard tourist fare. However, there are some real gems within, if you take the time to explore and see find some of the more interesting shops and goods. And if you're not shopping, just enjoy the ambiance and history!

Great iconography! Built on the two pillars that still can be seen, has nice views. In the same complex is supposedly the cave where Jesus and his family spent three years.

It's not only about the hanging church or the Coptic museum, it's the narrow and ancient streets of what was a Roman/Byzantine military settlement. An ancient synagogue is also on the site.
