One thing you notice about Tbilisi is that it is a city of contrasts, where some houses can barely be called houses, but all churches rise high, shiny and proud.. And proudest of them all rises Sameba, with its golden roof. The cathedral can be seen from almost any place in the city, it's a good reference point. It has... More

This magnificent building stands on a hilltop of St. Elijah, in the heart of the city. Tsminda Sameba - in Georgian "Holy Trinity", the main cathedral of Tbilisi Georgia Orthodox Church. Its construction began in 1995 and ended after 9 years, in 2004. After lighting it became one of the highest Orthodox churches in the world. Its height is 98... More

A church - huge enough to be noticed from all points of the city. Very nice park outside of it. If you are not an orthodox christian - nothing inside really to see.

A historic place that shows the era of Georgia in its beautiful past. It shows the elegance of the former architecture. I would recommend it

Luckily this church was bang opposite from my hotel. And had the view of it beautifully lit up at night from my room. Beautiful inside out. They even have a cafe in the church grounds to pick up some Khachapuri on your way out. Sadly the homeless which have taken refuge inside the church premises don't let you pray. They... More

We managed to find exactly the right time to visit this stunning, recently-built cathedral - about an hour before sunset on a sunny day. The light turned the stone golden and shone off the dome and made a lovely building truly stunning. Inside it's fairly plain still but they're starting to paint frescoes on the walls.
