During a short stop off in Yangon we decided to visit the zoo without checking trip advisor (clearly a bad decision) the zoo is in disarray every single animal in there is in a enclosure far too small and dirty, we happened upon the black bear enclosure to find two reasonably sized filthy dirt covered bears stressfully chewing the rusty... First, I have to say that I expected the zoo to be worse than it was, being in a country where animal welfare has yet to be progressive. Enrichment was provided in some animals' enclosures such as climbing ropes, toy balls, etc. But many animals were placed in small rusty cages and enclosures, especially the tigers who were pacing stressfully.... More than a zoo the Yangon zoological garden is a nature lover's paradise. The zoo is spread over a sprawling few acres of land consisting of lakes, water bodies and little jungles. The zoo is very beautifully segregated for reptiles, mammals, amphibians and aquatics. There are shows at different timing, so time your visit accordingly. One can feed the docile... More

It was established over 100 years however still attracting to visitors from far and near. Location is heart of Yangon and beside the Kandawgyi lake so that easy to access even walk from downtown. Yangon(Rangoon) Zoo has plenty of rare species both mammals and bird such as Red Panda(nick name firefox), Takin, Red Goral, Tapir, Clouded Leopard,Fishing Cat, Reticulated Python,... More

The hippos were standing by the wall waiting to be fed. Some of them seemed to get way more food than others. The fence is low enough that you can easily reach down and touch the hippos if you’re stupid enough. It’s an accident waiting to happen. The elephants were standing in a row while being fed by the visitors.... More

Unfortunately with the movement of the government, most of the best animals were taken and there is just a shadow of the previous zoo.

Old zoo with many animals in there.. we enjoy our trip to this zoo. The zoo is kind of big, we spent at least 2 hours there watching the animals and walking around.

I didn't really think the zoo would be anything out of the ordinary but it was actually pretty cool. We were so close to the elephants they could touch us. Feeding them was awesome. You might find it a little dangerous there if you have young children straying off but the adults would love it.

We took the time to visit the Yangon Zoo, although Zoo's are not the best places to keep most animals and found it most enjoyable. There are a good number of animal's that I have not seen in African and European Zoo's. There are a number of food venders if you get peckish. This site is wheelchair friendly
