Interesting close up of public transport in Yangon

The circular train takes up to 3 hours to do a full circuit of the outskirts of Yangon but 20 minutes is long enough to get a feel for this very old and rundown railway. Often... read more

Lonely planet guide recommended to take this trip it was the 5 th most interesting thing to do on their list. It's not so easy to find the platform so turn up early. Going for the whole 3 hours will be too long we managed 2 hours and found it fun and interesting watching how the locals travel. There is... More

The circle train is a cheap, easy and accessible way to experience a taste of real Yangon. I was completely fascinated by what I experienced. It's a bit of a rough ride and those who get motion sick may find it a bit tricky. Make sure you allocated 3 hours for this must do experience.

Easy and interesting. We felt welcomed by the other travellers, eventhough no one spoke English. They looked at us and we looked at them, with mutual interest. Do not forget to bring water, they did sell fruit and street food ... that probably western stomachs should avoid.

The circular train takes up to 3 hours to do a full circuit of the outskirts of Yangon but 20 minutes is long enough to get a feel for this very old and rundown railway. Often very full of travellers both local and tourists it is a place where the local market comes to you. All types of fruit and... More

Get it while you can ... there's a huge improvement program in the pipeline. Meanwhile whether you go one one of the old trains without doors, or the more modern Japanese trains with padded seats, you can have a three hour experience watching the locals using the train to transport their wares - some for sale to eat on the... All Myamar life is here from farmers travelling to market with enormous baskets of vegetables to ladies balancing trays on their heads and serving tasty snacks as the train rumbled on. Schoolchildren , fruit sellers and family's create a unique experience and a great way to enjoy the atmosphere of Yangon.

Train is for locals to get around, but for tourists, it gives a good understanding of life in Yangon. Very basic with seats facing each other and very warm. Locals walk up and down selling their wares which is interesting. You can see how they live and go about their everyday life. Takes about 3 hours round trip.

Glad we decided to take the train, it was a great way to see close up how the locals get around the city. We simply enjoyed sitting and watching people get on and off the train. We got off at a local market to explore for a while and then returned to the Yangon Central Station. If your interested in... More

Well, for first time Asia visitors it might be an attraction to rattle through the Yangon area and see the locals and be glad of getting back to central station. There are far better alternatives.
