Church with the king and queen
Apr 2019 • Friends
It was wonderful to attend Easter service with the king and queen. The singing was beautiful. It was fun to see everyone dressed up in traditional clothes. Lovely experience.

Classic Island Church
Apr 2019 • Couples
We accidentally went to the nearby Catholic church which was very quiet and austere then realized our mistake and came here. The service hadn't started but the singing had so it was a warm welcome. We sat down the back and enjoyed the service although it was in Tongan. The main sermon minister lost his audience after 10 minutes and went on for too long but I guess it was Easter Sunday. However it was fun watching the kids entertaining themselves down the back. The singing was excellent and the Tongan words were projected onto a screen so you could sing along. Everyone was dressed in their Sunday best so the colour was fantastic. Worth the effort.

Worth a Visit
Feb 2019 • Couples
The churches of this town are the landmarks so worth a visit if you are strolling around. Not especially decorated, but a landmark.

Awesome!

Visited on a Sunday morning for the main service. Was lucky enough to attend the service when the King and his family were present. The church was packed with people spilling out into the side courtyards. Although I did not understand all proceedings it was a great service (and I am not particularly religious) with fantastic music and singing. One of the great experiences in Tonga.

The Singing!
Aug 2018
Although you may not understand Tongan don't let that put you off. I was welcomed as soon as I arrived, I asked where should I not sit, and was promply showen to a row in the middle, "this is the best place, just behind the choir ", Their singing is truly wonderful. I don't understand Tongan but all services follow a pattern so you usually know what's going on. The Bible Readings were projected up with the Book, Chapter & Verse in Tongan and English so if you take a Bible with you, you will be able to keep up. Why should you go? To see the people in their best clothes, the beautiful singing and you may get to see the King .

Faith is Faith regardless of where you are....

Loved the church experience even though I could not understand their language. This church uses the same bible that I do, Kings James Version so I was able to follow along. They posted the books in English on the board behind the speaker. I had communion there with another guest at the Airbnb where we stayed. The music was beautiful and yes I did attend with the Royal Family. As we were waiting for our ride back to home, the King and Queen drove by and the King waved goodbye to me...what a cool moment!

The "king's church."
May 2017 • Couples
This was the home church for my children my wife and me for over a decade - back in the 70s and 80s. Centenary Church (Saione Fo'ou) is still home for our spirits, as Tonga will eventually be for our bodies. The crowds have thinned, but the bands and choirs are as good as ever.
And it's still good to see the Royal family in attendance whenever they are in the country. It's "their church" and the place where the Kings and Queens of Tonga are crowned.
So attending is always a good experience.

Beautiful service.

This is apparently the church attended by the Royal Family, although not on the Sunday I was there. Attending a church service in the South Pacific islands is a must do, as I also did in the Cook Islands, whether Christian or not. The singing and harmonies are incredible. The morning I was there we had a large group of school girls in their uniforms, and one of them led the others in singing. The service was in both English and Tongan and was a bit hard to follow.

Reminiscing about days of old as young children growing up in 'Saione'. Whether you are new comer or one of old, this place of worship is for all to come and hear great choirs (there are two) and to get a glimpse of Tupou VI and the Queen and various members of the royal family. It is also a place of immense spirituality and although the service is conducted mainly in Tongan, I am sure that all can feel the message that is being preached.
