This museum, not extremely large, has the most complete compilation of artifacts for the New Caledonian and surrounding Island groups outside France. It is quite complete in covering all facets of the lifestyle and culture of the people. The life-size exhibits are exceptional, the informational...More

I really enjoyed visiting the Melanesian Museum which shows authentic and indigenous artifacts from other countries all over the Pacific region such as Papua new Guinea, Vanuatu, Fidji, Wallis and Tahiti. Also called the Musee Territorial de Nouvelle Caledonie. Right in the city centre with many buses that go nearby. The whole first floor is devoted to NC specifically, while the upper floor focuses on other Polynesian and Melanesian countries nearby. Fascinating look at indigenous art...More

Almost looked like a museum from the past, but it was extremely set up. Not only Noumea but all other pacific Islands and New Zealand exhibits. Nice area inside and out in the garden. And some amazing items from the early Pacific area Recommended

Loved learning more about New Caledonia. Particularly interesting was their involvement in WW11 and the changes that happened to them as a result of America

Good displays of the various pacific cultures enabling you to understand the influences that each country has brought to their peoples. Easy to find and close to the market, Port Moselle and CBD fringe.

An interesting enough museum but not sure I would go out of my way to it. Lots of youth hanging around outside. Preferred the other three museums

This museum is small but a real treasure-house. A wonderful collection of artefacts from the region, well curated. The interpretive notes are in French (of course) and most with an English translation. Free entry which was a plus. Well worth a visit.

Do make the time to visit the museum. The entrance price is very affordable. The exhibits are very visual and a lot of the info cards have English translations
