Swimming in Anse Vata bay- the best swimming spot is right in front of the LeMeridian- there is public access you don’t have to stay there-just head for the long jetty.
Best swimming is in the left side of the jetty (facing the water), go past the sea grass and it’s shallow and silky soft sand.and best snorkelling is on the right side of the jetty. Lots of colourful coral and fish, (and sea snakes ) just get past the sea grass and you enter an amazing coral formation super close to shore! (Like 20m off the beach!!).
Jump off the jetty, the kids love it!
Spotted a sea HUGE turtle 20m off shore just cruising around at Anse Vata bay right near jetty cheating the sea grass.

Weather- we got VERY lucky with the weather . Blue skies every day (here 7 nights), and not a drop of rain until our last 24hours of our stay.
4-11 January.
It is the wet season so we were very fortunate.

Great playground for kids in Burger King for rainy day activity. Heard aquariumwas good from local.

Great kids playground on main road behind Château royal and le meridian

At this time of year (January) Anse Vata is VERY windy in the afternoons, water super choppy. But the bay is lovely and calm in the mornings.

A pleasant beach destination
Oct 2019
Anse Vata being the location of a number of tourist hotels definitely caters for tourists with restaurants, cafes, bars, and tourist offices. If the beach is thought to be similar to Australian beches, visitors will be disappointed. There is no surf, the water is flat, the beach narrow and the surface as pleasant to walk on. Having said that, the beach and the water is actually quite pleasant and enjoyable. The views out into the ocean are spectacular. The temperature of the water was confortable everytime we used it. There is a nice long jetty on the beach from which locals particularly dive into the deaper water. Of a night, Anse Vata comes to life with it restaurants.

Not going again, expensive.
Feb 2020
Very expensive!!!! Probably good for snorkelling but upset tummy for 3 days of 4 day visit - water supposed to be drinkable but I switched to bottled water from supermarket. Duck Island off the beach looked like a good experience with water taxi there and back about US$10 but the one day I could go it was very windy, OK for wind surfing but not snorkelling.

Lots of scruffy, drunk/drugged natives hanging around. Burger King at end of beach cheapest place to eat a filling meal.

Hotel Ramadan had 'tapas', chips fine some of the rest poor, ribs awful inedible.

Perfect few days
Feb 2020 • Couples
Anse Vata is a wonderful place to unwind with a great balance of beach, shopping and restaurants. From early morning to late at night, you can watch the locals swim, exercise, play pétanque - or just get into it yourself.

From the right hand end of the beach you can (should) take a water taxi out to Ilot Canard (Duck Island) to relax, swim, snorkel or just enjoy the food and beverages.

Further around the point in Lemon Bay is Noumea’s Aquarium. Walk if you are up to it or take a number 3 bus.

Anse Vata is an easy bus ride from the centre of town - or vice versa. It’s an easy place to be without having your own transport.

A relaxing beach.
Feb 2020 • Friends
This beach is small in area between the grass and the water.
However, it is clean and safe with Lifesavers on duty.
There is no surf but plenty of sun to enjoy especially in the afternoons.
Youths enjoy playing soccer on the beach and some ladies enjoy sunbathing topless.
There is a jetty to walk on and jump off and areas which are good for snorkeling.
Overall, it is a very relaxing beach with warm ocean water and no rips.
Highly recommended.

Nice little beach
Jan 2020 • Couples
It’s not huge beach but it’s beautiful. Life guards on duty most days from 10am to 5pm.
Jetty to jump off
Not that sandy so maybe beach feet when in the water.
Water warm and so relaxing. Turtle lives in front of Chateau Royal Spa Resort. A lot of kite surfing and wind surfing available.

First Time In Noumea

It’s been years since I’ve been to a beach which is probably blasphemous coming from an Aussie.

I went by the beach in the morning on the way to the aquarium and really didn’t feel like going in because the weather was still overcast. After lunchtime, the sun broke through and it seemed a lot more inviting even though the winds were fairly strong.

The water was surprisingly warm out for the first 15 metres, after that it cooled down a fraction but was very enjoyable.

Even after coming out of the water it was very comfortable just to sit there and watch the insane kiteboarders in the distance.

The only negative for me is that it is quite a narrow sandy beach, but it’s still very enjoyable.

Plenty of shower points to rinse off as well as the occasional public toilet if you want to change clothes on the way through.

swim, surf, shop or eat, its all good.
Dec 2019
While on the mainland we had been told to head for Lemon Bay, just about 20 minutes from the terminal, but this was quite packed, and seemed lacking in amenities, so we carried on to Ansa Vata beach, a lot less crowded, and with more options. Was popular, if a little windy on the day.
Across the street were a number of shops and cafes, also some pretty good menus in the restaurants along the street catering for most tastes. A few souvenir places that sold goods in French Francs, or would convert whatever currency you may happen to have on you, they were quite happy to do that for us, except you get the change in local currency of course.
Quite easy place to get to with the local shuttle service, and numerous taxis were doing some good business that day. We enjoyed chatting Franglaise with the locals!

Make way for surge stoppers
Jan 2020
Cafes and restaurants along the esplanade are very nice. Sand in Anse Vata beach is only a few steps in breadth, which, judging the way things are going will be making way for surge stoppers soon. Come here before sands becomes casualty of sea level rise.
