Visiting the markets in town, the blue roof markets, has been done to death here. Go and have a look tho. In particular, check out the extensive fish market nearest the water. The array of fish, etc, is extensive. Just wander around and take it in.

The fish market was very interesting, a bit smelly but great variety of fish. Onto coffee, good, then the pastries. Oh my goodness very nice! We changed our Aussie dollars to local currency but they do take small Aussie notes. Good for nick nack souvenirs. Anything from Pearls to sun hats.

Took the Lyvai Hop-On Hop-Off shuttle to go to the morning market in Noumea city. Booked bus tickets on the shore with the local company, which is much cheaper then prices offered on the cruise ship. Market was very busy in the morning, lots of stalls, a variety of souvenirs with interesting prices. Definitely a must visit if you're in... More

Always good when visiting a country to see how and where the locals buy their produce Great fruit and vegetables of highest quality and virtually all locally grown Fascinated by the black skinned avocados Quality meat, fish, meat. There are also stalls selling tourist souvenirs and clothing. Same as anywhere and not sure how much is made in New Caledonia!!

We went on a Tuesday hoping to get fresh baguette and cheese. A limited fresh fruit & veg market was open. Nothing like we were hoping for..

We spent 7 days in Noumea and went into the Market on Thursday and then again on Sunday. Sundays market was probably twice the size of the Thursday market. Most people spoke English and were happy to talk with us about the origin of their products. Plenty of food and pastries to purchase and lots of local produce. We got... More

We took the choo choo train the first 2 hours we were here (day stop on a cruise) and came quite late in terms of the market as it closes around 12 so packing up was well under way when we got here, some already closed. Would have loved to see all the color and hustle and bustle of a... More
