I visited this place with low expectations as the subject matter suggested to be a collection of pottery... and I was glad that my expectations were shattered completely. This is a historic art gallery, with very diverse and interesting story to tell about Paraguay from very ancient clay artifacts, and much more. There is also a nice souvenirs shop with... More

Privately funded for the construction this is clearly the most extensive collection of art, design, and cultural artifacts in the country. We were delighted to find ceramics made by a local artist we had visited and seen her at work.

Good place to spend 1 to 2 hrs, but could be more organized, have a defined route to follow and more staff to help visitors.

If you manage to get there (it's a bit tricky), Museo del Barro is the best museum in Asuncion, and definidely deserves your visit. It's a new exhibition complex including different collections under a single roof, plus special exhibition space, and a shop. The permanent collection includes historical/ethnical pieces from Paraguay, with a stunning assortment of ritual masks. The area... More

Fairly new museum featuring local pottery and paintings, both collected from the indigenous tribes and modern pieces inspired by them. Not much signage, and only in Spanish. Free.

An excellent facility, free of charge, very diverse displays. Walking distance to all major hotels. Look for Canada St, and follow the paved road. Worth the walk.

Interesting but too small, Asuncion should invest more because it is a landmark. Is difficult to find waliking because it is somewhat hidden, and even if you ask people can't explain very well, so be aware. You will take less than a hour to visit and since Asuncion is not full of interesting points to visit I recommend this museo

Wonderful combination of religious art, indigenous art and artifacts. Small but a great variety of things to see. Something for everyone and beautifully arranged. Big enough to be interesting but not so big as to be overwhelming.

Both the permanent and temporary exhibitions are worth visiting and help understanding and knowing local art and culture, at the entrance there is a shop of local crafts.
