The beaches may well be the best in South America. Punta is busy, busy but the further north you go the funkier it gets. Notwithstanding the super funky Museo - Taller Carlos Paez Valero which is a wow.

If you come to Punta del Este, the port is a place you should not miss. Beautiful views. Do not miss the sea lions and the superb yatchs.

Very nice place to walk in, have a rest, rent a trip for fishing or go to near islands (Isla Gorriti, Isla de Lobos), eat some typical food.

All of the cruise ships anchor out, as there is no dock large enough for them. It is easy to get to a rental agency. We used Multicar. They have an office right in Punta.
