A castle with many steps !
A castle dating from the 12th Century in the course of restoration. The castle is located at the top of Mount Auf so has great views of the Jordan Valley. Many steps, so may not be everyone's choice. Children under 10 will love it although there are some places where they should be watch carefully. Not many signs to guide you round - we went to investigate what appeared to be a cellar only to find a dark corner which led to wells and bathing area. Excellent place to visit if you like old castles. Watch out for the open and closing hours - the place shut up shop bang-on 16:30 on the day of our visit, earlier than most other sites. Limited car park spaces.

    Ajlun Castel
This was one stop on our 14 Day Private Egypt & Jordan Trip with another couple. After seeing so many places everything starts looking alike. All these Castles have very long histories and most are defensive along the trade routes. They also have significant religious connections for this region is well knowen as a place the Holy Family as well as the Disciples Traveled through.

A bit too busy and crowded for my taste..
When I went there, it was very croweded with school kids, screaming and shouting..I would have come by much earlier. But the castle is small, maybe an hour's worth. They have got some environmental solar project going on over here..entrance is covered by Jordan Pass..

    Medieval castle
If you're going to Jerash, you can add this place as a stopover afterward. It's a castle with nice views; inside you will find a display of weapons and artifacts. It's not a must-see but worth a stop if you're already in the area.

Great addition to a trip to Jerash
We went to Ajloun as part of a day trip from Amman. We started off in As Salt, where we had breakfast and a stroll, then drove to Ajloun, after that Jerash, and an early evening stroll around downtown Amman. It's a great castle, really fired up the kids' imagination. Unlike many places in Jordan, it has a good number of explanatory plaques all over the venue, which really aids the experience.

Wonderfully restored crusader castle that can be explored.
Wow! Ajloun castle has been carefully restored to allow access to many areas of the castle. Beautifully lit and presented. We had a guide with us as part of our tour so were given lots of information, but there wasn’t any real signage at the site. If you didn’t have a guide, there is information you could find in a guide book. Fantastic mosaics on show in one of the rooms.

    An interesting Castle
I visited this castle as part of a solo tour to Umm Qais, Ajloun Castle, and Jerash. During the drive up, the driver stopped so I could get a view of the castle from below. Arriving at the castle, I showed my Jordan Pass and walked into the site. It is a little bit of a walk uphill, but not too bad. I walked around the castle a little bit and then entered the castle. The interior was fairly well lit, and most areas were fairly open. I visited the small museum in the castle. I think I only visited the first three floors of the castle, just decided to not climb further up. It was a nice place to visit.

    Interesting castle
This castle from the time of the Crusades was an interesting place to visit. It's on top of a hill and gives indications of being heavily fortified back in its heyday. There are some plaques and mosaics, but the castle itself is interesting with its multi-levels and stairs. Worth an hour or two to see another side of Jordan's history.

12th century muslim castle set on elevated position on a hill top, a strategically significant fortress against crusaders. Great views across Jordan valley and surrounding dessert worthy of a stop over.

If you park at the beginning of the hill, there is a cafetaria which has a great view as well after visting the fort. The fort itself is a bit of a climb to the entrance. Nice views and restored inside.

We did this as part of larger tour. It wouldn’t have been something I would normally have done but it was actually pretty impressive

There are a few castles in Jordan and Ajloun is one of the best preserved. I stopped there a few times with my clients and people like this place quite a lot.
