We originally planned on doing the citadel on our own, but when we walked in, a nice older gentleman offered to give us a guided tour (I wish I could remember his name). The Citadel is a good stop if you get into Amman early & your hotel room is not ready. It is a very good first stop & one gets a beautiful view of this city. It is not a long walk & we covered the whole place in an hour - there is a very small museum on this sight... More

Probably the best site to visit in Amman, lovely ruins with fantastic views of the city and amphitheatre. They have restored the palace and plan on restoring the temple of Hercules (as it was damaged in the earthquake) in the near future.

Well preserved and worth a visit. The palace behind the museum is a gem. It is often ignored as visitors usually go around the ruins of the temple of Hercules. By the way don't miss the giant hand of Hercules ! You needn't take a guide as the ruins are well sign posted. They do pester you though. The museum... More

The Citadel is a must see historical monument. Enjoy the remains of the old Hercules temple along with astonishingly beautiful views of Amman which can provide beautiful photo shots for your memories, try the selfie with the Roman Theatre downwards. Also go to the museum which has valuable articrafts dating from the Romans time until the 20th century.
