Reading the Brandt guide we expected it to be than is. Yes the Jewish humour was amusing and the models of various synagogues is interesting but that is it no history no nothing about history of the Jewish people and stupid money to get in.

We took some visitors to this museum and we found it interesting and enjoyable. Especially the exhibition on Jewish humor. It is the first time I've come out of a museum laughing. Cant really say I learnt anything knew but it was interesting to see something so familiar exhibited in such a way.…

The website of the museum indicates that the core exhibition is closed, but after some hesitation we decided to visit anyway, and are very happy that we did. Especially the synagogue exhibition is really well done. There are models of synagogues around the world, an informative yet humorous film explaining the difference between Ashkenazi and Sephardi customs, a video installation with scenes from synagogues around the world, and much else besides. The Jewish humor exhibition was also delightful. We hope to return when the core exhibition is open again.…

We were told by the staff at the Jaffa Clock Tower TI that the main exhibits of the Beit Hatfutsot were now open. Taking them for their word, we went out to the museum and were sorely disappointed. The staff at the ticket desk didn’t tell us most of the exhibits were closed and we were charged the full 49 NIS each to go into two small temporary exhibits, one of which was poor. At this point it is absolutely not worth the trek or the admission fee to go to the Beit Hatfutsot. We waisted much of a day for a sub-par museum experience. …

The museum's new core exhibition is set to open in October 2020, and will be displayed throughout 3 new floors, including more than 1300 artifacts and original collection. At present, we display five permanent and temporary exhibitions. "Hallelujah! – Synagogues Past and Present”; “Let There Be Laughter” - Jewish Humor Around the World; “Heroes” - an exhibition about 145 Jewish trailblazers; "Operation Moses: 30 Years After, an exhibition unfolding the story of the Ethiopian Jews’ Aliya and integration in Israel; “Capturing History – Chim” - a retrospective on the life and work of Chim - David Seymour - one of the greatest photojournalists of the first half of the twentieth century; and one lobby display: a special performance art display in memory of Leonard Cohen - I’m Ready My Lord. The reviews should have warned me: finding this museum is half the fun, especially with guards who speak only Hebrew and are more than gruff and some locals who want to be helpful but are clueless directionally. But once found I found the Jewish Humor, Synagogues exhibitions terrific. And stumbled upon the genealogy section and more photo exhibits down stairs.while I couldn’t find staff on genealogy ( nor enough time anyway ) I grabbed an English version of how to work with them via internet. Finally, the Hinneini final song video of Leonard Cohen was moving. The one reception staff member who spoke English was also a mensch. …
